![]() ![]() ![]() Up until now my goals have always been about looking cuter and being healthier. I knew I had to dig deeper if I really wanted to change. Well, this is IT! I'm looking to make a huge career change from a stay-at-home mom to a career in law enforcement. Lately, I seem to have been stuck and unable to get motivated. Now I have a HUGE brand new kind of goal! I need to be STRONG! ![]() On December 11th I undergo fitness testing to enter a law enforcement academy. This is what MUST be done! Pushups ~ 25 with perfect form Sit-ups~ 20 in 60 seconds 1.5 mile run ~ 16 minuets Also, along with this I will faithfully chronicle my eating! I know you all are supportive and kind and so I'll be transparent here. I can only do one REAL pushup and one legitimate sit-up. I have a lot of work to do and am shocked that's all I can do! But have a plan to succeed!Oh yeah...and to think my dream job used to be a flight attendant! LOL! Edited to add pics! Last edited by Elle; 10-08-2008 at 06:08 PM. |

Just stick with it and before you know it, you'll be blasting around town with lights and sirens & junk. lol, but in all seriousness, stick with the daily log... you'll find much satisfaction when you read back on it and see the progress you've made. |

I have an acquaintance who was a personal trainer and figure competitor who got a job as a corrections officer. Our husbands work in the same field. That's what sparked my interest and then of course all the reality TV shows I watch! LOL!Thanks BSG! I know I can! I'm shocked at my starting place though. Thought I was stronger but I'm not looking back! You should see my 4 year old and 5 year old doing pushups. It's hilarious! I'll post a pic sometime. They're very excited for mommy, lol Quote:

Elle, you can soooo do this! These tests are a great motivator to kick your fitness level up a few notches. Years ago I aspired to be cop and needed to pass a grueling physical test. Many people puke after completing this test that puke-buckets are positioned throughout the test room. I did some research and stats showed only 2 out of 10 women pass this test and that's not even on their first attempt. I put together a solid training program to attack this test in all it areas: obstacle course with vertical jumps, horizontal jumps, direction changes, up and down flights of stairs all for 6 laps, a controlled push station for 10, a controlled pull station for 10, modified squat thrust for 10 (do a sit up-vault over a 4 ft bar-do a push up when landing) and then once you are cooked and ready to throw up you have to pick up a weighted torso bag that weighs 120 lbs and carry it for 50 ft. If you drop the bag at any point or don't set it down in a controlled manner you fail the whole thing. I cruised through the test and felt like a million bucks. I was the only girl in a group of 15 being tested in that time slot. Some of the guys failed which left me feeling pretty damned pumped. I NEVER let go of that feeling of physical success....it turned me into the lifting junkie that I still am today. Training for and passing this test 5 years ago was the turning point for me to stick with and enjoy HARD training. I hope your training journey for your own tests does the same for you. Give your all Elle and you'll be amazed at what you can do! Plan and train properly for you type of test and you will KILL it!

WOW! WOW! WOW! That is spectacular! The test you did sounds like the one involved in the actual academy AFTER you pass this initial one! There's a huge shortage of correction officers here in my area (Pacific Northwest). I heard lots of folks have a hard time even the basic pushups and sit ups. You're totally right about just the training! Right now it's the part of the application process I'm most excited about so far. That AND the prospect of earning a paycheck for the first time in over 6 years! ![]() |

Today was a lower body day. It had been forever since I'd done this type of workout:
Warm up on treadmill at 4 at an incline of 4 ~ 7 min. Leg Circut: Lunges off a Step bench with 1 riser holding 8# weights (20 lunges) Laid down on back with feet on bench pelvic tilt up while squeezing buns (20 tilts) Leg Extentions with 70 lbs (12 reps) Donkey Calf Raises with 90 lbs Ab on bouncy ball and the laying scissors THEN side oblique crunches To eat: wake up: coffee with splenda and cream ( I know this cream needs to go) M1: 3 eggs 1 WW toast M2: Protein shake M3: White Chicken Chili M4: Protein shake M5: White Chicken Chili again M6: Protein shake (while preparing dinner) M7: Salmon Cake, Garlic Green Beans Water, water, water... Becacuse I'm post op gastric bypass I drink a lot of shakes and need to eat a lot of solid food spread out through the day. Please feel free to critique me as I go along. I could use a helping hand and know it will be helpful to use fitday but I forgot my password and lost all my "custom foods" So, I gotta get that set back up so I can see what my intake is. |
