Default ViRTuouS: Drop and give me 20

Since my Biggest Loser Challenge fell through, I'm starting a new log. I asked my honey what should I do next, he said to lose 30 pounds (just throwing a number out there). I'm 5'8" and have maintained 178 pounds for the past 3 weeks. I'm not sure if 148 would look very good on me, so I suggested 20 pounds instead. I realize I shouldn't base my goals on the dreaded scale, but I figured...at least I've got another challenge. Keeps me out of trouble. Well, not really...but you get the idea! So it's 20 pounds by the end of the year. Weigh in will be on Fridays. I'll post some comparative pics in a month or so.

I finally did 45 min on the elliptical today. (yay)

Weights:
Bench Press-4x12@55
DB Flyes-4x12w/10s
OH Extensions-this was all over the board, going to do dips next week instead
DB Kickbacks-4x12w/10s

Diet was off, didn't fitday and I know I didn't eat enough. (boo)

I'm so in!!!

And you're right...you shouldn't go by the scale...I so learned that the hard way...I don't go on it unless to check my body fat. I've lost a total of 40 pounds, but then gained 10 of it back, but lost MORE bodyfat than ever before. Don't get discouraged if that scale isn't going down in numbers...you could be losing a ton of bodyfat, but gaining a lot of muscle at the same time. I tell everyone how much I weigh and no one believes it...not even the Hubby! Weighed myself last week...155lbs and I'm only 5'2...told Hubby and he was in shock and yet I lost over 3% more of bodyfat! Take your bodyfat percentage and go by what that says...take it every month and see how much you have lost...it's all in the measurements and percentage! THROW THAT SCALE AWAY sweets! I can't wait to see those progress pics...you were already dropping a lot of weight! Good luck!

Heyyyyyy Mrs C!

Heyyyyyy Slimm!

Thank you both for your support!

Problem with throwing out my scale is that it also takes my bodyfat%.
I'll include bf% with my weekly weigh ins.
I just view dropping pounds as a goal to strive for...motivation to get my butt in the gym!!

Let's see what I can accomplish in 3 months, either way...I'm going to improve.

In!

V....you may want to verify the accuracy of your BF scale VS getting pinched. I had a BF scale too that I purchased thinking I could use it to gauge my BF loss. It was grossly inaccurate. I got on and it told me I was 29% which I thought was really high for me. I went and got pinched by a very reputable trainer....and was 14%. Measurements and how your clothes fit are a great marker to use as well.

Do yourself proud V! Nothing tastes better then achieving a goal.

I don't have any pinchers, but I can include measurements and clothing size with my weigh ins as well. Thanks for the idea!

Today's going to be a looooooonnnnnnnnnnnggggggggggg day. I'm trying to function on very little sleep. It's been a hectic morning already and now I'm off to school. The days just keep getting busier. It's a challenge just to keep up!

Hi Claire!! 10 more days! I'm excited for you.

Yesterday I was running on an hour of sleep, so when I got home I crashed. All refreshed now.

Today is another busy day, but I did manage to pull 25 minutes on the elliptical this afternoon and lift tonight.

Back & Biceps
Bent Over Rows-4x12@55
DB Rows-4x12w/10s
Inclined Curls-4x12w/10s
Deadlifts-4x12@55

Diet was better, staying away from junk. Need to drink more water!!

On a side note:
For one of my classes I have a civic project to do...some kind of volunteer work. Then I have to write a paper about my experience. I decided to go down to the local homeless shelter and teach classes once a week. The first set of classes will be typing and the second will be Microsoft Word & Excel. They are an hour long each for 3 weeks. I'll need to start planning my curriculum. Any suggestions?

Nice workout chica!

I'm assuming these classes your teaching are obviously beginners. Start with the basics. All the easy stuff. It's a short class you don't want to pour too much information and have them know.

For you typing class...I would get a pring out of what the keyboard looks like so they can take it with them to help remember where the keys are....of course show them where to place their fingers. Let them type away with their fingers in the right place for a while so they can get a sense of what keys their using when they're using each finger. Start with the middle row...then the row above it...the row below it and then the numbers. Once you help them memorize where all the keys are have them type out the alphabet without looking at the keyboard....then start with words and sentences.

With Word and Excel...all the simple basics...how to start a spreadsheet...how to type a letter...where everything is...things like that.

Workout looks good. Great job fitting it in with your busy schedule.

That is awesome that you are doing volunteer work.

I am seconding the suggestion to get bf checked another way. My scales check bf and water % as well..while they are a good way to keep track of up or down patterns..you can NOT believe the numbers. Mine currently say I am 20% I don't THINK so... I have been told they give the reading based more on your lower body..which is where us girls hold more fat..so gives a lousy reading so yes check scales IF you can keep it in perspective and not as a total measure of progress..but for real progress tracking either get someone at the gym to do a bf test monthly and get out that tape measure

I think measurements would certainly be a great way to measure versus bf%... Those scales are so ..iffy....on bf calculations....

You go...you can do it!!!
