A KEEP-FIT fan has been barred from his Merseyside gym after complaints that he was sweating too much.
Andy Heatman, from Maghull, was left humiliated after he was told there had been 15 complaints about his per- sonal hygiene. The 42-year-old psychiatric nurse, who teaches patients about cleanliness and hygiene, was confronted by staff at Cheshire Lines Health Club, in Maghull.
He said: “I was on the bike doing part of my usual routine when a member of staff walked over and sniffed me.
“I felt a bit paranoid but it was later in the week I was taken into the office to be told about the complaints.
“I kept waiting for the punchline but there wasn’t one, and when I went back as usual later in the week I was stopped from going any further than the entrance.”
The father-of-three said he was angry and embarrassed about what had happened and now feels paranoid about his body odour.
He said: “I work out for two hours, four or five times a week. I use the bikes, treadmill and cross trainer so of course I sweat.
“But no-one has ever said anything about my body odour, I use showers, shower gel, deodorant just like everyone else.”
But all is not lost for Mr Heatman, after he signed up at a gym closer to home where managers said he was allowed to sweat as much as he liked.
Mr Heatman added: “I’ve been with Cheshire Lines for four years and paid over £1,200 to them, and this is how they treat me.
“The last time I went on a bike and someone came on the one next to me I felt paranoid but I think I’ve got beyond that now.
“I’ve signed up at Total Fitness (at Switch Island) and they just laughed when I told them about the complaints. They said that if I wasn’t sweating then I wasn’t working hard enough on their equipment.”
Mr Heatman and his wife, Jill, have demand a month’s refund from Cheshire Lines, £25.
Cheshire Lines gym owner Bill Martin said: “We did everything humanly possible to avoid humiliating him.
“We have standards here as well as any other gym has standards.”

I used to workout at a gym that had a bunch of Bosnians that didn't believe in wearing deodorant (it think was because of their religion), but anyway, if you got a group of 10 or so of those guys together, OH MAN DID IT STINK!! One of the gym's staff would walk around spraying Lysol and air freshner, .

LOL at the gym I used to belong to, I nicknamed a guy "Aqua Man" as he sweated so much he looked like he jumped in the pool before he worked out.....it was gross....

Makes me wonder if this guy is worse than he thinks or if the gym is just a bunch of dicks.....

I dunno... if he is sweating a lot, i mean thats ok, we are there to sweat, but jesus, clean up after yourself, 1. and 2- dont wear the same shirt every day....

this guy at my gym, Runs for like EVER on the treadmill, POURS sweat EVERYWHERE, NEVER cleans up after himself, THEN comes downstairs to do abs and "stretch" he NEVER cleans the machines and whatever spot he uses to stretch is left with a pool of his man sweat....

It is just plain disrespectful for him to do that, period.

In addition he smells like old gym socks and semen... its REALLY fucking unpleasant... so I dont really have much sympathy for this guy, sorry....

Yep, I got a buddy that does the same thing. 45min to 1hr on a stairclimber, and you need a mop and a bucket to clean up the floor.

I knew a guy like him at our gym. The smell is what made him the problem. Sure, he was so sweaty it was unbelievable...but the smell was about enough to make you vomit. I think someone finally had a talk with him about because he started wearing different outfits. Some nasty fuckers actually just leave their gym clothes at the gym and just wear the same ones day in and day out. The smell would get so bad that we would toss them after closing and act like we didn't know what happened to them. The lockers we had were our locking mechanisms with one master key, so we had that ability.

I could care less about sweating so long as good use is made of a towel. I've been described as "a sweaty bugger" but I try to ensure that my sweat goes in the towel rather than oozing off everywhere.

Stinking of rotten sweat is not acceptable. One problem with sweating a lot during cardio, especially if water intake isn't high enough, is the build-up of ammonia in the clothes. With the recent "carbon-friendly" trend to ever-cooler wash cycles, one can find that the clothes don't have all of the sweat ammonia cleaned out and can be smelly even after being washed.

I carry a towel with me always. Like BW said nobody cares if you sweat, just keep it at bay as much as possible. Nothing worse than having to wipe up somebody else's sweat. For some reason it's infinitely more disgusting than your own. Like flatulence

Anyway, apparently this whole trend of banning the sweaters (not the fuzzy, wintery kind) from gyms is spreading. Just today I was talking to one of the guys who works at my university's gym, John, who said the head Leach bitch had to "write up a report" on a guy I've seen working out there fairly often doing mostly the right things, save for some random circuit-ish stuff involving high-intensity cardio in the middle of the weight room (stop jumping jacks over my bench, ifyouplease) - he's pretty built, definitely not the average bench/curl frat-tard - but they reported him for sweating a lot. We both WTF'd over it for a few minutes.. John's done strongman before and we pretty much agreed it's ridiculous, pathetic, political correctness bullshit. Especially because this is a gym on a university campus made up of primarily young people. Now I'm almost determined to get kicked out for anything related to that, just so I can point out to her that it's not actually a written rule for the gym. THEN I can rub her face in my armpit and leave.

Being serious here, You and the other sweaty guy need to get together and make a complaint against this gym Nazi bitch. Your not training at the university gym for free, so to say, I'm sure alot of money is being spent on your behalf in tuition to allow you that privilege. What right is it of hers to tell you that you aren't allowed to train there.

Unless your shitting on the equipment I don't see a problem.
