Just the meds alone would be nice. We pay hundreds monthly for our co-pay on medications. SS, RB

For the life of me I can't figure out why anyone w/o a terminal illness would pay COBRA. There are much cheaper alternatives in the private sector for health care.

The problem isn't with the system it's with the education of the people using it. Check into buying coverage on your own.

I agree here. I am a little removed from healthcare, but I am in Actuary by trade...or whatever you call it.

I don't know your full situation. (job status, income, single, married) .....but have you checked other options ?

The three people that I helped out are now paying 1/3 to 1/2 what they were on Cobra plans. I am not in the industry either but a little homework pays off. On a cobra plan you are paying for what the company policy nazi picked for coverage. They have a wide range of stipulations based on covering large groups of people rather that only coverage that is pertinent to the individual.

This it what I mean about the system "not" being broken. People either don't know how to buy insurance or are too lazy to research what is actually involved in buying the coverage that they need... they want to kick back and let the government i.e. you and I.. pay for it.

The problem is that I'm over 3 months pregnant. I wouldn't be covered if I went private right now. So, I think I'm stuck with COBRA.

Doesn't your state have free coverage for pregnant chicks?
I know mine does.

Exactly... When I started my business and left corporate America I had medical mutual insurance... buying it privately I am still on medical mutual. all they asked for was the previous policy I was covered under..

They can't deny anyone coverage. All they can do is jack the rate up.

I'm making assumptions, I suppose. lol. I'll try. First things first, I'm going to schedule to do a dental and vision visit for me and Devin and then I will just get medical coverage.

Ekkk! Unions have caused more problems than they have solved.

Really?
How does not paying one dime for my insurance and a guarantee of a 40 hour week along with decent wages hurt anyone?

That's not bad actually.

A few years ago I had a quote for insurance that was $650 for a single person based on a minimum of two people (not married or dependants).

For two people "family" insurance for us is $1250 a month (or 15k a year).

But that's not cobra.

6 months for a MRI???

with a brain tumor you might be dead before you get it

Here is the thing with our health care, no one will EVER lose their homes or savings to get healthcare. If you need to see a family Doc, it takes a few weeks or days if you are in with the secretary.
Also, no one pays for medication. The government pays for it all.
And the health care itself is comparable to the US in that we are as advanced but the hospitals are not like hotels here like in the US since it's government run.

I have private work insurance which I pay 12$ a week for and I have amazing benefits (cept for those bastards refusing my long term disability claim)

All in all, I would feel like I was driving a fast car w/out breaks not having medicare. It's always there whenever one needs it.

If there is any suspect of a brain tumor, you can get an MRO quicker.
But the dr would have to request a rush on the test.

I was recently stuck with a $25k bill for my shoulder surgery, due to some trickery by my doctor and my insurance's refusal to pay up. Fun. Hopefully I can get this worked out, but still, freakin ridiculous.

This is amazing, the same thing happened to me, but the bill was only $19,000 from the surgery center

Have no idea who is going to pay for it?

Solving the health care mess would be an act of God. Where I work, I was just laid off, and actually have zero benefits, not even cobra? Doesn't matter could not pay for it anyway.

Sorry for your lay off bro, maybe try and talk to the hospital, maybe they can drop the price considering your situtation?
