CPAP Machines and CPAP Masks for the Treatment of Sleep Apnea

My cousin has a full face mask that covers his entire face....and a friend uses a mouth piece.....some people I know didn't have to use anything....they just had their tonsils, adenoids and uvula removed....so it varies from person to person.

The sleep studies are not just for Sleep Apnea, but for sleep disorders.. It helps to determine what could be going wrong...and what effect it will have on your health / body.

My first test involved me going to the sleep center at the hospital. I got there at 9pm.......and didn't leave until 430pm the next day. They hook electrodes all over your body to gauge eye movement, oxygen levels and a load of other stuff. I also had an infared camera on me all night and i was also audio taped. So everything is being recorded.

The test determines how long it took me to fall into a deep sleep and how many times thru the night i stopped breathing. They said I stopped breathing 78-80 times throughout the night ....there were more but they only count occurrences that last more than 10 sec I think the doc said.

It also takes me less than 2min to fall into the deep sleep stage...according to the test.

Like i said before it shows my oxygen levels falls to less than 70% which they say puts me in the having a stroke category.....not to mention internal organs becoming enlarged as a result.

So my point here for everyone is to consider getting a sleep study done just to make sure all is well....because this sleep thing (or the lack of quality sleep) is serious....

A lot of you catz are talking about the meds you are taking.....but can you tell me how you are feeling throughout the day ? are you tired... ? are you able to function ? Any probs working or concentrating ?

I think that my sleep disorder has a lot to do with my Bi-Polar disorder. As soon as I get home after work I get wired... Then when I lay down to try to sleep my mind races so fast that I cant stand it... I can not get my mond to slow down in order for me to fall to sleep. I have to take the seroquil to manage my Bi-Polar. As far as energy levels. I feel like total shit when I wake up. I hit the sleep button sometimes for up to an hour. I cant get out of bed. I feel like im not there. I cant think straight and I feel hung over. I know its not good at all but my doc gave me ritalin 2x a day to help me wake up and stay focused. Plus I take 15-30mg of percocet to help woth my energy. I drink a NOS energy drink every morning and sometimes a NOS energy shot on top of it all. Ive tried not drinkin/taking that stuff but without it I am a total zombie and cannot function.

so we have different sleep issues...but the same zombie result.

definitely make sure you see the doc on a regular. Like i said, the lack of sleep does have a big effect on the body.

Sobe Essentials, Rockstar, Redbull....is what I live on.

docs were quick to give me meds you know (Oxycotin for constant headaches, Androgel, Cholesterol shiat)......but the Meds...or the sleep meds IMO only solve the symptoms...when they should be trying to find the root of the issuse.

and this is why i say go see a doc..one that will try to find the root of the issue...and not prescribe meds for the symptoms.......and if he/she can't help...change docs and see another.

IMO finding another sleep med is not enough.

Hey bro's,

For the guys using CPAP, how the hell did you get used to those things? I tried one on a recent trip to the hospital and felt like I was suffocating! Any tips?

You see above the one I use. After being diagnosed with Sleep Apnea.....I went back for an overnight stay where I tried a particular mask. I got lucky the first time, and was comfortable with the first one selected for me to try. There are a few different models, so I guess it is all trial and error. took no time at all to get use to it...and I slept like a baby the first night i used it. didn't wake up nor did i stop breathing...which is what the Cpap is for.

I had some trouble getting used to mine but I learned it was better than the alternative. You need to keep your mouth closed. I wear the same nose cover as 2ez does and it works fine. SS, RB

Can anyone lift, wake up, play a sport, train, and sleep without a med on this board?

Glad to hear that. I've found several that haven't been warned and a few people I've treated that experienced the priapisms. I would never wish that on my worst enemy after seeing how uncomfortable those people were.

Just wanted to make sure my buddy, RB, knew about it is all. I don't necessarily trust his doctors or the residents to say such.

Another thing is that they tell me I should change it every 6 months....because the padding wears out. haven't done this, like I should though.

I have the same type of mask as 2EZ. It took me quite a while, but I'm used to it now.

I've also been diabetic for about 10 years. Once you are diabetic, you cannot be cured. You can aleviate the symptoms, & even get the glucose levels down. But the tendency will always be there for the levels to rise if you stop doing your treatment, whatever it is.

I did some reearch when I found out I had Sleep Apnea. There have been links between sleep apnea, diabetes & low test. At the time I was looking into it, there was no consenus on what was the originating condition, but the links where there.

I think it just shows how common these ailments are. I think perfectly healthy people that don't have any of those issues are actully rare.

I've tried 1/4 a pill when EC kept me up until the wee small hours, and it was very effective. They were my gf's stash, you're right about them being more popular in Canada I think.. they seem to be the standard here.

How do you folks deal with the CNS depressing side effect of sleeping medication? I'd think at a high dose it would disrupt your training a lot

Hey bru,

Have you had issues with Low Test Levels ?

Never used GH.
I've been on HRT for several years. Started with leetle pills, Andriol I think . did fuck all. Went to Androgel & that gave me stronger, more frequent wood, but did nothing for actual test levels & other symptoms. Started on Cyp at 375/month, worked up to 675 month. Now that I think about it, I've taken up to, I think, 350/week. I tried something called magic bolan(sic) which was a mix of cyp, tren, & 2 other compounds I can't remember. Right now I'm cruising on scripted 170/week because a.) I actually feel OK on it & my levels are actually measuring high. and; b) my sources have all dried up.

Little old me can, minus the sports. There was a time when I hit the melatonin bottle to sleep and man the dreams were wacky, but would sleep like a baby. I used it pre contest too because the nerves were keeping me up at night. Now I can fall asleep and sleep pretty good thru the night.

watch I am gonna jinx myself with this...
