Default Holy crap.... On Star

This is the frist car that I have had with On Star..... I just signed up online to get the emails from them.... They ran a diagnostics and told me my car was fine.... It told me how many miles I have on the car... How much oil life I have remaining....And what mileage my next oil change will be due based on my driving conditions.... It even told me what the damn tire pressure was in each tire and told me that I have too much air in them.

This shit is weied... What else can they find out??

When your check engine light does come on they give you a diagnostic code to give to the dealer you go to....make a long story short...anytime I gave the code to the mechanic, it was not even close to what was wrong with the car.
Happened 3x so far with the Tblazer I have.

Start talking crazy and sounding like an alien and see if someone chimes in to ask if you're ok.

Not a good Idea I know.

yeh, sort of scary big brother knows EXACTLY where you are, can listen to what you are saying, and in the case of an arrest could probably use GPS to pinpoint where you were at any given time in the past to place more guilt on you if needed or kill any allibi you might have!!

too scary for me, i don't want a super duper tracking device!!!

Thats just BS in my opinion. What about our freedom of speech and everything else. They only passed that bill or act so that they can violate our contitutional rights. Hell next thing you know the USA will be a dictatorship

Oh I definatly like the options. Its nice to call people without touching a phone. The damn thing told me that I had too much air in my tires but I havent touched the tires since it came from the dealer with like 14 miles on it??

I turned mine off. The diagnostics are ok to a point but the whole system is a tracking device of sorts. The conversation monitoring can be real and I often wonder with traffic cameras and other electric monitoring crap how long it will be before the feds use it to issue tickets. I also wonder if the data acquired from them monitoring your vehicle is being used as profiling of sorts.... Sounds far fetched and like I am being paranoid for now but who knows how far this stuff goes??..........

I think the entire system is over rated. You can add onstar vehicles to your cell plan and use the system as a hands free cell but it doesn't sync with your cell via blue tooth like some of the other systems do so you don' t have updated contacts. The turn by turn is ok but it has no graphical user interface. You can get a GPS and a bluetooth headset for less than a years subscription. My truck has all the same diagnostics through the dash on tire pressure, oil life, systems check.....etc so the email to me is fluff. The only real value to the system that I can see is in the event of an accident that would leave you unconscious. For what they charge it's just not worth it.

Mny cars today have onboard computers that measurecertain parameters in the even of accident. The intent was for manufacturers to improve safety, but apparently insurance company's have access, as do police, for determining culpability.
