Me, I'm 28. its not so much appreciating and understanding my lifestyle. kinda long story. but i was in school, this new GI Bill came out that starts next year, so I made the decision to move back to Portland. I had more than enough money to make it through the summer until school started back up, and not have to work. then i made the choice to move, so instead of having $3k in my bank account, i have to spend it all on breaking my lease, starting a new one, and moving. so that just about cleans out my account. so here i am for the first time in my life, struggling. yeah, i work at a strip club, make some crap pay, but it's enough to get me by, pay my bills, but not have much extra... so i tell her that I will watch her kid for her for a couple hours couple days this week while she had to work. which i knew was a big deal, because we've been dating for a couple months now, and she's guarded me from meeting him. so i have an interview the day before i'm supposed to help her out, the guy tells me only way i can have to job is if I am able to start training the next day. really had no choice but to take the job because i need to make money. you know? so i tell her i can't help out because i need to start this job the next day, and now she's all pissed. its like what the fuck, you want me to tell the guy i can't take the job because i have to watch your kid? then i'll have no job, and i'll have no money, and then i'll just be a broke ass dude, and won't ever be able to help you out if it gets to that point.

anyways. that's my fuckin rant and rave for the week. shit kind of pisses me off. its like they want you to make money, and see that if things work in the long run, that you would be able to support them. but its all good. she came by late last night, and "apologized"

..as she should!!! Bro, I'll tell you like this.. HEAD FOR THE HILLS!!!!! Run and don't look back..lol. Shit will just get worse. I've been in a VERY SIMILAR situation in the past that started out just like what you described. Single Mom, selfish, and a hormonal wreck with alot of issues.. OH, didn't know it at the time cuz she hid (most of it) it well.. but, you get the point Ended up spending (WASTING) over 3 years of my life on that one. A) She shouldn't have you watching her kid after only dating you a few months and B)her first reaction should have been "congrat's on the new job sweetie!! ..don't worry about baby sitting little Timmy, you handle your business! I'm so happy for you!!"
Sorry, there's my rant!..lol ..a little bitter if you couldn't tell You've been warned

hahaha. yeah i hear ya brotha. It was halfway my fault. she was complaining that she didn't have anyone to babysit, and i said "well, i dont' have anything that i'm doing, so if you need me to, i could do it." i had met her son a few times before, and i was introduced as "mommy's friend from work" and it was left at that.
i was thinking the exact same thing, she should have said "congrats...." one would think it would be better to have a job, than to be broke and not have a job, right? maybe i just have the wrong idea on that one.

shit, i've been doing a terrible job keeping this thing up to date. got in and did some kickboxing today. worked some odd combos. jab-cross-lead hook-jab-cross, cutting an angle on the second jab. that was about it.

did some training yesterday. dont' remember much of what we were doing in class. i was so fuckin tired from working both during the day and at night on fri/sat and sun, not to mention dehydrated and hungry... almost passed out in class, only to end up puking in the shower after. not a good sitution. i think we did some work setting up knee strikes, leading in with the jab. but i don't remember the combo. one combo i do remember, is backing the guy into the wall, then throwing a cross-lead uppercut-rear uppercut-rear over hand elbow. some shit like that

today....
went in, and did a personal with my kickboxing coach. we did some medicine ball work for warm up. then worked jab-jab-cross to body-lead hook (in progression) then off the hook setting yup different strikes. anything from rear thai kick to across the body, push kick to the hip, rear uppercut followed by a flurry, rear kick to their lead leg.

after the private, went to the class that was going on. it was a kickboxing fundamentals class. we did a lot of foot work stuff, padding. parrying punches. it was a fundamentals class. so it was good to go back to the basics. plus, I can work with some of the new guys at the gym, and help teach

came up with a new combo of my own that i really like. grap the guy in the clinch, and do some dirty boxing. throw the rear uppercut-rear thai kick to the head. idea is to get the head to pop up on the uppercut and get the knock out kick to the head. little akward at first till you figure out the timing on it, but real effective. i got it while messing with another combo that i really like. i stole it from Mike Tyson. the combo is jab-cross-lead shovel hook (hook to the body)-lead shovel hook-lead thai kick. i used to always throw shovel hook-lead hook to head. but i was messing around during bag rounds, and was trying to throw a lead head kick. this one is more akward than they previous combo, because most people don't have enough power to throw a lead thai kick real effective without going to a switch stance. but it works, and this is why. most people with alternate their strikes (strike from the right, then the left...) so when you double or triple up on one side, it screws with most people. not to mention, when you throw those shovel hooks, you throw the first one real hard, instinctively they drop their hands, the second one is more of a distraction, cause you are throwing the lead thai kick as the shovel hook is coming. their hands are down, so it lands. the hard part is figuring out the foot work.

anways, i weighed in today at 200.3. only 5 more pounds...

so last night a bunch of my friends from Quest decide to stop the strip club and hang out. whole bunch of shit goes down... i end up having to throw some random guys out of the bar for puking in the bathroom. they were you're typical wanna be tough guys, in their early 20's, wearing Tapout and Affliction clothing. i'm telling the bartender why i kicked them out, i see on the security screen some commotion in the parking lot. i turn around, and see all of my friends running outside. so i'm thinking "fuck, this is not good." turns out one of the guys that i kicked out started running his mouth to the owners best friend, and he followed the guys outside. so as I'm running up, i see the owners friend throw a punch at one kid. another kid goes to throw a punch at the owners friend, but I'm behind him,. I catch his punch at, put the kid in a half nelson. we end up wrestling on the ground, and he's in my guard. i reach for a kimura, but the kid stands up, in my open guard. i see him about to rain down a punch towards me, and without thinking, roll to a knee bar, and crank the shit out of it, hyperextending the fuck out of his leg. as he falls to the ground and rolls to his stomach, i switch it up to a nasty toe hold. and i mean bad. I got his knee bent at a 90 degree angle, and had his toes pointed all the way around almost at 180degrees from where they were supposed to be. i start yelling at the kid to calm the fuck down, or i would break it. to which he immediately stopped struggling. we stood back up, and the kid was hobbling, trying to stand. i tell them to get the fuck off the property or they would be arrested for tresspassing.

i got to talking to one of my friends that is a pro fighter, and he said that it was one of the nastiest toe holds that he has seen. said that "if the kid was that drunk, and he was already hobbling in pain, he's gonna hate life tomorrow." shit, i feel so bad about it. if the kids foot isn't broken, then he for sure has some serious ligament damage in both his ankle, and his knee. when you get the knee bent like that, that is where you do some serious damage. the funny part to me is that i didn't even think about what i was doing, it all just happened out of instinct. hope the kid is alright.

Just wanted to start out by saying that I have been around the board for a while now, I am just using a different login name.

I have been training for 1.5 years now, in the northwest, at a little gym called Team Quest. End of last year as I was getting ready to fight, I was also in the process of quitting a job, and moving, so my training got interrupted for a little bit. But now I am making the sacrifices to travel so that I can get back in the gym with my friends and training partners up at Quest. Hopefully I can get my groove back, and get in the cage by the end of the fall.

Due to having to travel, I have to make the most of my time. Right now, I train Tue/Wed/Fri for 2hrs in both the morning, and night. If I don't make it up there in the AM on tuesday, I just stay for 3hrs that night, which is brutal (cardio wise). Mainly because I will do 1hr of submission wrestling, 1hr of muay thai, then 1hr of hard sparring. we usually do a few light warm up rounds sparring, then pick the pace up, and you're basically in a muay thai fight (the only thing we don't do in practice is elbows, for obvious reasons). which is especially fun when a few of the top pro guys show up and want to work some extra rounds.

Oh yeah, I'm 5'10", and weigh about 215 right now. I really want to get my weight down some. maybe closer to 200, so that if I get a fight that is day before weigh in, I can fight at 185. but as for now, the amateur shows are all day of weigh ins, so looks like I will be going 205.

That's cool man. We have had some of the team quest guys and even Henderson show up at the Shark Tank in La Mirada, CA to train here before. The training looks good. Being 5'10 you might want to look into going down more in weight. A lot of heavy and light heavy weights will have height on you. I'm going down in weight myself. I'm 5'10 1'2 and I'm looking to get down to 170. I'm at 180 right now. I feel I can take advatage of my strenght there. 2 yrs ago I was at 212 lbs.

i know brotha. trust me. but its one step at a time. i was at 218 about 2 months ago. i can't just drop a shit ton of weight, and get right to 180 and then cut to 170 all at once. its hard right now for me to maintain the lower body weight, and still have to energy from a lack of eating as much. i need to adjust to this body weight, and then lose some more. weighed in today at 196 after i got done sparring class.

speaking of which, we had some good rounds today. was tired as hell. got some good rounds in with Matt Horwich tonight. we do some battle at times. his stand up is really getting a lot better. he's learning to use the clinch, throw lots of knees. if he can get as skilled at his stand up, and as comfortable with his stand up as he is with his ground game, he's gonna be scarey.

That's great!!! Working with team quest will really improve the weapons you will need to have a dominate clinch. Ex. is superior control in the clinch and you know they use dirty boxing tactics like no other. Keep us updated.

did some training yesterday. probably wasn't a good idea, since i was feeling sick as shit. they made us wear head gear (we haven't been the past couple weeks) so my head that already felt like exploding, felt even worse with the head gear on. every time i got hit felit like i was getting smashed with a 2x4. got a new favorite punch to throw. i set it up by throwing a couple of real hard jabs. just one jab by itself, but real hard, and aggressive. after i land a few, the guy starts the jump at the jab, swat at it. so i start the motion of throwing the jab, and as I'm extending it, turn it into a short hook. knocked a guy out with it! it was right on the button, and his mouth was open, but still very effective. i've done it before in the past (throw that punch) and it catches a lot of people.
got some good stand up rounds in with matt horwich as well. man. he's got a shit load of speed with his combo's. relentless. i caught him with a couple of good shots, but he never lets up. i drilled him with this rear upper cut, followed by a lead hook, and he just kept coming at me. shit is kinda scarey!

got into the gym today, should have taken another day off. i dropped a FULL KEG on my right foot friday night. My shit has been fucked up. Couldn't barely walk on it sat/sun, and it started to feel better Mon. the keg landed just behind the knuckle of my big toe. which is a bad spot, since when you're in your fight stance, you are bouncing on the balls of your feel. shit it was painful trying to spar. my mobility was cut drastically. so i made up for it by throwing harder!!!

went to kickboxing class before sparring. we worked the following combo in succession, jab-lead uppercut-straight right. then changed it into jab-fake the lead uppercut-rear thai kick to the head. idea is that most people will pop their head up if they think the upper cut is coming, so you set them up by throwin the previous combo a couple times, then when you fake the uppercut, they pop their head up, and you land the head kick.

sparring rounds went good today, despite my lack of mobility. i actually almost got knocked out. my friend cody landed a pretty nasty head kick on my. it wobbled me real bad, he said i looked like the rubber band man, but i managed to stay on my feet. it was the last round of the night, so he made me call it a night on that kick. had he followed the kick up with something, i would have been out. don't know what it was tonight, but everyone was trying to hurt me. everyone came at me hard. but i like it.

after we got done sparring, Suave, Matt Horwich, asked me to do some grappling rounds with him. so we went from a standup, worked take downs, to submission. which was hard as shit, cause we were both sweating up a storm, and were slippery as hell. he's really excited about his upcoming fight in the UFC. leaves out on Tuesday. i hope he does well, and has a good showing. his hands are getting better, a lot better. just the speed at which he is throwing his combos is starting to be amazing, trust me, i know first hand, as he lands many strikes on me.

no, didn't sound shitty at all. Matt and I have a lot of the same build... we are right around the same height, weight, and strength. so i make for a great match up for him as far as training. Matt is one of my best friends, and it all stems from respect in the gym. couple incidents stand out in my mind. i had been at the gym about 5 months, and things were finally starting to click for me. We were grappling in Matt's class, odd man out, and I got tapped. I waited for Matt to Sub the gym he was going with, and as soon as he tapped, i ran up on Matt, and took his back, well, tried. at the last second he saw me, swept me, throwing me off the mat, and into a fan, but kept coming at me, we ended up rollling off the mat, into a bunch of folding chairs, knocking them everywhere, making a lot of noise, but still going at it. he took my back, and sunk in a deep rear naked choke, which i proceeded to yell "fuck you cracker, I'm not tapping" and fought the choke for a good 20 seconds, till i passed out. afther that class we would always go at it in his grappling class. i like to go against him because he is one of the best in the world on the ground, and it can only make be better.
another was one sparring class in august of last year. only 3 of us showed up, and Chris Wilson was teaching. there were a few guys watching (Ryan Schultz, Ed Herman and some others). Everything that I did that day was on as far as my stand up. i was coming in, reading he reaction, slipping under his jab, drilling him in the body, and followin up a combo. since then, he has always kinda grabbed me during the tue night sparring class.
thing with Matt is, a lot of guys give him shit at the gym. the guy used to be homeless, and yeah, he used to stink real bad. he used to go to class, and sleep on the couch that was out back. watch some interviews on him on youtube, you will quickly realize that the guy is not all there. not a lot of people understand him. but he's a fuckin genius when it comes to the ground game. so i've always picked his brain about things, and we've just become really good friends.
