Welcome to JayC's MMA training log.
First, any comments, advice, or questions are always welcome and appreicated. Free time is hit and miss but I'll do my best to keep up with this. It might start out very basic at first because of that but I will get as detailed as I can once the log gets rollin' and I have time. Basically, I'm a former wrestler with a few years of TKD under my belt. I've decided to roll all that as well as my passion for strength/conditioning into MMA. I do work full time w/in a great job so MMA is my love and I give it priority when ever humanly possible. Since last year, I've been training under a UFC vet in an MMA gym and on a fight team within that gym. The core training is based around Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Freestyle Jiu Jitsu, and Mui Thai/boxing with a touch of Ninjitsu rounding things out. I train in these arts 5 days a week as well as strength & conditioning 5-6 times a week. Almost as important, my diet is clean and spot-on YEAR ROUND. Something most of my team mates can't even say ![]() Keep in mind, sometimes things/routines switch up because you maybe nearing a fight, cutting weight, just training, no fight scheduled, etc.. I'll start my next post with a few back dated days I wrote out. Thanks guys!

Appreciate it Kab! Yes, for what I lack in experience and/or technique, I usually make up for it 10-fold in heart and dedication.
I always tell the younger guys, heart and dedication aren't something you can teach, either you have it or you don't..IMO

Brazilian Jui Jitsu/Wrestling (2 hours): Worked on technique.. with submissions and defense from the head & arm position. Also worked on escapes from half-guard bottom position and counters from opposite position. 30 min's of grappling/sparring, 6 min rounds changing partners each round. Also since I have a fight coming up, had to finish off with "The Guantlet" It's basically me in a circle grappling to full submission for 10 minutes with a fresh man coming in every minute. It will kick your ass! I did pretty well, I submitted two guys and I was only taken down once and never submitted. It's nearly the best HIT conditioning around.Diet Total Cals: 1954 Fat: 26% Carbs: 35% Pro: 39%

Stand-up/Striking (2 hours): Worked Boxing technique. Worked different combo's on the bags then combined all of them in a timing drill. Full contact sparring for 4 x 5min rounds, switching partners each round. Checked a hard kick with my elbow so its a little swollen and bruised today. Hurt like a bitch last night but I heal quickly so I'll be golden by tomorrow ![]() Finished off the night with a non-stop 10 minute round of conditioning. 5 different stations, 60 sec's at each station and you go through everything twice w/no rest. YES! Only 4 lbs left and I still have over 3 weeks til fight time. That means I can live a little over 4th of July and my trip to the lake! ![]()

Complete MMA/fight training (2 hours): Since we have a few pro guys with fights coming up, we worked on training them and doing the whole transition for MMA/sparring. First 10 mintues was conditining/warmup. Then 30 minutes of just boxing/spar. Then 30 minutes of just submission wrestling/BJJ/spar. Then we put the grappling gloves on and did several rounds of everything combined for fight training (complete sparring). Finished with another 10 minute round of conidtioning (relay wind sprints). **Sprained my fucking ankle tonight. Partner had a single leg on me and as I balanced on one leg was fighting him off and my ankle just twisted wrong under his weight (he had about 25lbs and 6 inches on me). I heard it pop twice like a knuckle crack. It's not too bad, swollen but just a slight sprain. One that will heal up in about 1-2 weeks. I heal VERY FAST. I actually did it at the beginning of practice and just taped that bitch up solid and finished the whole session.. w/sprints. I hate quiting. Just how I am. ![]() Calories Eaten Today grams cals %total Total: 1855 Fat: 41 371 21% Sat: 13 119 7% Poly: 7 59 3% Mono: 7 63 4% Carbs: 202 679 38% Fiber: 32 0 0% Protein: 183 732 41% Alcohol: 0 0 0% **Heading out for the holiday weekend and won't be back until the 9th. That should give my ankle time to heal and I will still be doing things like eliptical, bike, and lots of weight training while on vacation. I'll pick things back up when I return.. enjoy the 4th!

I'm back all!
Thanks for the kick ass comments while I was out. I'm stoked to keep sharing my journey and updates on any fights, win or lose I really appreciate the support.Although I put in some strength and conditioning time while on vacation, I was able to spend about 2 complete days of rest which really helped my ankle. Its only been a week and I'd say my ankle is already back at about 80%. Thank god for my quick healing capablities. **16 days til my next fight so I'll be doing some 2-a-days until then Tonight is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu so I'll post my next entry in the a.m.

BJJ (2 hours): Straight jits for nearly 2 hours. Worked on breaking mount, holding mount and using north/south, side control, etc.. when wanting to control a scramble. Also worked a few different ways to get a triangle. Spar/grappling for 5 x 5min rounds switching partners each round. Stayed after to roll with some of our more experienced BJJ guys.. worked on submission that better suit my short/stocky size. worked some sick arm arm bars and ankle locks/toe holds. Body type really dictates what is useful and what is useless, so I'm trying to perfect the holds that best fit me while still learning everything possible to have more subs in my arsenal. Nice work JayC. I know from wrestling in high school the crazy amounts of repetition that goes into really making all these maneuvers intinct and reaction rather than a thought process. Sounds like u're really talented bro.
