9/20/2008 - Fight Update:
Bad news.. Long story short... my original match up backed out (again).. He did not want to fight me. So my choice for the night was either don't fight or another 170lb'r who had nearly 20 fights agreed to match up with me. I took it because even though he had alot more experience in the cage then me, I knew I was better overall. The only way he was going to beat me was to get a lucky hit in before I took him down.. well, he came right out and threw a massive head kick. I had my hands up, moved to block and it just barely came through and caught me. I dropped but came right back up to my knees to stand up and the ref called it... tko. I was rocked for a sec but wasn't completely out. Either way, got caught and there's not much you can do about it. Part of the sport. I'll press on because I have another fight I'll be traveling for this friday. Puts me at 3-1 for now.

My trainers are actually already working on my pro debut for me... Looking like it could be as early as end of october, or nov.. possibly. I have some mid level pro shows/promotions that are interested and are reviewing me for possible match ups.

Exactly...it happens. Sounds like a pre-mature stop to say the least. What sucks is you cant really learn from that. You got tagged and recovered quick, did what any good fighter would do in that situation, some refs are just to overly protective.

My thoughts exactly (regarding nothing to learn).. actually I was friggin upset half the night because I "thought" I dropped my hands or missed the kick some how.. you know that amnesia feeling where you lose the 2-3 seconds before the hit?? Well, I kept apologizing to my coaches saying "I'm sorry, I didn't even see it coming, blah, blah.." ..lol They were like, "Youre fine J, you did everything right!" Well, after watching the video, I felt a little better.. it showed my hands up the entire time, it showed me reacting VERY QUICKLY to the step/kick and then his foot just slipping over my hands and catching me..

I'm sorry to hear about your loss but like you said, sometimes these random things happen, perfect hits and quick refs... it won't be the first and last time it happens to the better man, especially in mma.
You will be all the better for the experience. I feel bad for the next guy, who's face you are going to take your frustration out on!

PM-Wrestling/BJJ (2 hours): Started in clinch with drags and duck unders drills... then moved to a few double leg takedown drills if your opponent pulls out of the drag. Also worked the drill landing in side mount w/under hook after the double legs. Next moved to a sagging single leg takedown from the clinch and to set it up. Next addeed to that drill so when you land (in half guard) you start to pass but hip/leg over to the knee bar and finish. Lastly spared, grappling matches 5 x5 min rounds changing partners each round. PM-Stand up/striking (2 hours): Focused on offensive and defensive drills preparing for my fight Friday. I stayed in the entire time while fresh men rotated in/out.. Started with wearing the leg ties and working on my foot work and head movement. Next worked on specific striking combo's while using good foot work and not settling in. Then moved to drills where partner drives in with strikes and I hit the takedown or move up into the clinch.. Next drilled where I go on the offense hitting combo's to the takedown once opponent starts to cover. Last, worked a defensive drill where I just use my foot work and hands to defend a series of kicks. Cool! I've been training in MMA for over 4 yrs now. What gym are you at? The way I came into the sport was I was boxing and wrestling in hs. Won boxing tourments and went to nationals. Was going to go pro in boxing but having broke my hands to many times and trying to juggle a relationship w/ a child at the time really put my dream on the back burner. Always wanting to try MMA I end up running into some old friends that got me hooked up with the Shark Tank gym here in CA. Been here ever since. Trained at others as well.

..just dropping an entry to let everyone know I haven't fallen off the face of earth.
I actually bruised my upper ribs/lower chest something fierce. We thought I might have had a Pheumothorax.. and I guess it could be a slight one but its feeling better each day. For this reason I had to take the entire week off to heal up and be able come back 100% without risking further damage/injury. It took a good 4 days before the constant pain even subsided. I'm feeling much better now and looking on track for training on Monday but we'll see. I've done some 3-4 mile runs each day over the past few days to feel things out and they went well. Its driving me absolutely bonkers to go from training/conditioning 7 days a week to NOTHING!..lol Sucks. I'm looking at hitting the weights tonight to test the waters as well.
