View Full Version : Bodygoals....
Just got back from my visit with John at Bodygoals and these words pretty much sum up my day........RUDE AWAKENING. I knew I had weak points and imbalances but I didnt know the extent. I had the functional movement screening test and it (with no prejudices) pointed them all out. I have a long road ahead of me to fix these imbalances and learning how to use the correct muscles and form while working out.....Trust me. For example, I thought I had my bench all under control and was on point ( 405), I might have had the strengh but was using all the wrong muscles/technique. This in turn gives you minimal gains for you efforts and makes you more prone to injuries. Im looking forward to our sessions and will post again.....Good experience.

Wow, that is great to hear. Jon is just an absolute honor to have here. I'd love to visit him for an appt....but live all the way across the U.S.:(
All I know is that Iron God has nothing but praise for Jon, and IG's judgement is top notch as it is, so that is saying a LOT. Glad you feel the same.

Ill have MNK ready to roll, bustin heads and pressin like a bull in no time.
Just got back from my 2nd visit with Jon at Bodygoals......according to the results of my function movement test and from he observed on my 1st visit he had a list of about 8 excercises/stretches for me to do with my new best friend......my 3 foot foam roller. These targeted my calf, glute, hip flexor, hamstring, and abs. Felt good when I left.....On a side note the 1st time I was there he had me reach over and touch my toes (flexibility not one of my strong points) measured about 5 inches from toes.....2day was asked to bend down and touched my toes and I reached over and was able to touch the ground. May seem like a small thing but the work makes my back and hamstrings feeler somewhat loose. This as told to me by Jon is an everyday thing that has to be done prior to workouts to improve overall imbalances and to keep that flexibility. This in turn will help prevent future injuries. Looking forward to next session.......and beyond once Im cleared by Therapist (recent shoulder surgery) to move on I'll give Jon the green light to push me that much harder (full body).

Just remember attaining flexibility is alot more time consuming than maintaining.
Take what Jon shows you and make it the cornerstone of your training.
Just wanted to update....came back from my third visit to Bodygoals. This week we went over proper squating (firing up the glute), RDL, trunk twist Felt them with little weight but strict form), and correcting the weak scap issue re: pushing and pulling excercises......Next week I will begin my workouts with Jon after having gone over correctives! Its funny how little adjustments in the way we do our excercises make such a big difference. Concentrate more on the muscle being worked. Like he said, "you might have to leave your ego at the front door" using correct form and not loading the other muscles makes you go lighter but you def feel it more on the target muscle! Next week its def TIME TO WORK!

Ok....so I just got back from my 1 st workout with Jon (bodygoals) after having had the functional screening test session and my 2 corrective sessios and I will just let you know a couple things....first and foremost the guy is great to work with. He pushes you and will not let you quit...if you do (like I did several times) he pushes you harder. No matter what excercise Jon has you do he constantly watches form and technique in order to keep the excercise effective. I made 1 MAJOR mistake ( They wanted to take a pic of me drenched and laid out on the gym couch and post it on the forum). At one point not sure if it was after squating drills or while during work on the slide board I became very dizzy and light headed(blood sugar dropped severly). After a brief recovery and discussion period with Jon...he informed me that I should NOT have consumed waxy maize prior to my workout. I was to leave it for PWO drink. Big lesson learned! I was there for 30-45 minutes but it felt like I was there forever. Feels good to get that 1st workout under my belt. I have a long way to go (havent worked out with weights in 4-5 months /shoulder surgery) but Im looking forward to working with Jon and the rest of the fellas. I will keep the board posted.
Everything sounds good bro, can't wait to see back and pumpin, only this time the right way! Keep it up, and now you can teach me a thing or 2!

MNK, It was your first session, next time pics will be taken as promised;)
2nd time around with Jon....had a great workout. Learned my lesson NO WAXY MAIZE PRE WORKOUT this time around. Different type of workout that I was not use to. We did alot of work with a 30 pound keg ( Shoulder feeling a lil stronger) . Fast paced with very lil rest. Ive actually brought my brother (twin ) to get evaluated and now we have it set up so Jon trains us both. This will def add to the intensity levels and motivation. Funny but we have the same physiques (more or less) same weakness and imbalance issues and our lift poundages are about the same. It will be great to c our improvement as we continue to train. Looking forward to next Sat!

It should be no surprise that I'm going to suggest yoga in addition to what you're doing. Get a good book that explains what you're supposed to do, where your gaze is focused, etc.. That way, you'll be told exactly how you have to stand, sit, look, hold, etc. so you don't use the wrong muscles.
3rd workout......(can only get out there on saturdays). Did sled work in a parking lot bahind the shop. Had me push sled (with added weight) a certain distance and then immediately turn the sled and pull while running backwards. We did this for a while and the LACTIC ACID was KILLING ME! We did other workouts, definitely nothing that IM used to but def gets your heart working! Excercises are a bit difficult to describe because there are not the normal machines/free weight type of excercises. He uses ropes, tires, sleds, kegs and so on. These guys practice and incorporate strongman techniques. Im far from that but def like what hes putting me through! For those that are unfamiliar go to bodygoals.com and you can get an idea!
