Default Diet /clean carbs ?

So, even when I eat brown rice, oatmeal, and sweet potatoes, I stay hungry, is that normal? If I eat veggies I am ok, no cravings, as long as I add some good fats in.

My whole family is diabetic on my dad's side, it makes me wonder if that has something to do with it

Are you adding in good protein with every meal? Protein plays a huge role in stabilizing the blood sugars, which in turn helps control the appetite.

Then run with it. Vegetables are nutritous and generally low cal. Don"t know about the diabetic thing playing a part. Can't think of why it would, just off the top of my head. There are a few members here who have to deal with that issue though, and they may have some ideas. I can understand the starchy carbs, but not the oatmeal.

Oatmeal is one of my favs but if I eat it I have cravings all day, it sucks!

I have been on a Body Opus diet ( keto diet) and I don't want to do that again by any means. I guess incooperating some veggies will keep me out of ketosis.

True. But unlike potatos etc., it typically stays with you longer, making you feel full and alleviating cravings. Apparently this is not true for peaches though.

I find, that with me, if I'm generally eating lower carb (such as mostly veggies) that when I DO eat carbs like oats & sweet potatoes, I crave them horribly. I'm fine until I eat them.....

Keto required very little carbs except for re-feed days...

These re-feed days allow excessive carbs and calories, i'm just not picturing correctly how you could still be hungry re-feeding?

Also, re-feed days should be low-fat. So minimal spillover.

Main point i have, is oatmeal is a grain, hence harder for the body to digest. Try to stick to grass-type carbs like sweet potato.

If you post up your diet, we should be able to help more

Edit: Green leafy vege's (1 cup worth) will not impact on keto during the week (negligible carbs) and a good source of your carbs for each day is 1/2 cup of almonds or cashews like last meal of the day, helps to sleep having the carbs as last meal.

I find after a few weeks of this style of diet, i become more and more sensitive to carbs, and really bloat like a fish whenever i have carbs.

If i'm not using keto-style, i am not sensitive to carbs at all...

OMG I am a carbaholic and wish I could eat them all day, but I can't and won't. You may need to add another serving of veggies. How about some good fats? I USED to add some avocadoes to some of my meals and nuts. Now I only have almonds everyonce in a while. I do load up on veggies, lo cal and good source of iron and fiber. Then again I also add a little extra on the protein.

How many cals are you eating in each meal?

Well if I don't eat carbs I can eat more cals without gaining weight, I would say I hit 1500-1700 per day.

Apples are the "hunger-staving" food that make me hungrier. I figure everyone's body's different, so if you find what works for you, who cares about what "works for everyone else"?

If veggies, not starches, fill you up, try adding spaghetti squash to your meals that you'd normally cook with noodles or rice. It's a great way to save calories, add texture, get more veggies, and in your case, stave off hunger. Buy a spaghetti squash and bake it at 350 until it gets tender, then cut it in half, remove the seeds, and scrape the meat with a fork (you'll see why they call it "spaghetti" squash). You can also poke the skin with a fork and pop it in the microwave for 6 minutes or until soft.

Add it to your meals, tupperware any excess and use next time. I add it to chili, stir frys, stuffed bell peppers, spaghetti, and any sauce or stew I'm making.
