View Full Version : Shoulder Pain in the most complicated joint in the body

About 3 weeks ago I was doing rear delt flies with light weights, something pinched and became uncomfortable. The next day my shoulder (R) was killing me.
Subsequently I have fallen out of bed, sober on that shoulder and fell down the steps in the rain.
Long story short, my right shoulder hurts all the time and I am not exactly certain what the problem is. Possibly a bruised and a pinched nerve. Have laid off the weights, had a couple of massages, and acupuncture.
Taken pain pills to no avail, and it really hurts, at least enough to keep me away from the weights.
My plan is to simply rest it and do cardio until March. Then start a light regiment of weights and get back with the program.
Sorry for the choppy sentences, it is late here and I am going to be gone to tomorrow, but appreciate any input.
My right side of my neck hurts too. Go figure.

Next day, still hurts like heck,
SS, Your best move. Let it rest up a bit and if it continues get it checked out. It might be more than what you suspect it to be.

SS - I think I remember this from before the bed went down. When doing the flyes, you felt something and radiating pain? Which would indicate a nerve problem.

Yes diagnosed as pinched nerve
I will be stretching and simply doing cardio for the rest of march, have already dropped
6 lbs

I have a bad right shoulder and it was healing up when I took about 2 weeks off of training them. It helped a bit and also getting some PT on it. Its actually a bit sore today...
I am gonna go get some more PT tomorrow, an adjustment, my lower back is tough to crack and a deep tissue massage. I think mine is just a bit of built up tension

If this is a consistant problem after you recover, see a physical therapist. Just Thursday mine helped a chronic problem that I completely forgot about because I've lived with it so long. I don't know what happened, but the muscle that's supposed to prevent movement of the shoulder blade didn't work right.
I had my shoulder scoped (de-pressurization) in Dec. It took 8-12 weeks but I am back to normal and it feels GREAT! I was back at the gym in two weeks taking it easy.

Lan-T - exactly what procedures did you have done on the shoulder? I am supposed to have a labrum sewn up, supraspinatus sewn up, and some spurs ground down. I am worried they will screw it up or forget to do the spurs, which I think are the worst part. When you say it feels great - are you back to lifting heavy? How long did it take you to lift real heavy again?
SS - the shoulder really is a challenged joint. It has the greatest range of motion of any other joint, but also is supposed to have stability. Its almost impossible to have both great freedom and great stability.

Sounds crazy, but I am embarrassed to see my shoulder guy, he repaired my triceps last summer and again 3 months later, told me I was an idiot for going back to the gym too soon.
I have taken every pain killer know to man, including something that is suppose to be stronger than morphine, 3 one cc injections, directly into the shoulder, or at least the delt over 3 days, each injection would stop the pain for about 4 hours, but you would swear I was drunk.
