Default Barkley Comments.

And even though Charles Barkley isn't always the sharpest tool in the shed, this is sure to spark some controversy...

That comment was mighty Christian of him.

I didn't see any problem with what he said because it is the truth! I am sick of these "fake Christian" conservatives as well and I have been saying that for a long time. Bjaarki always talks about it.

He's just saying on CNN what most of the country thinks anyways but they don't have a mic. The Christian Right cherry picks the parts of Jesus' teachings that fit their agenda.

I'm no biblical scholar, as Mr Barkley obviously is, but I see that liberals know 2 things from the bible... judge not, and forgiveness. Those 2 concepts get twisted to justify even the most deviant of behaviors.

Agreed. You can take the "do not judge" and "forgive" and think it means that we should be ambivalent to what goes on around us. The bible doesn't say to be completely tolerent - hell, read some of the old testament stories where God ordered nations to completely wipe out other nations because of their "godlessness". Read about the Amalakites. BUT, I do also agree that their is a ton of hypocrisy within the Republican party. They say they want to make the nation strong top to bottom but really what they want is an economy that grows at 5% so that big business can expand. The attitude is, if you're in the middle class (or lower) you're just in the way. I'm personally not in either of those classes and when the economy is growing I benefit greatly but I also see the need to pull people from the bottom not leave them behind. Plenty of hypocrisy in the Democratic party though too. I'm beginning to hate politics. My biggest peeve is when (see Hillary) politicos say, "I'm the only one that can withstand the Rebulican attack machine" or we need to stop "those Republicans". Hey, what if I'm a republican???? Do I want MY president to feel that way toward me, with such disdain? I was not a huge fan of Bill Clinton but I remember something he once said that hit it perfectly. In a debate one of his Dem counterparts was railing on the Republicans and saying, "they this" and "them" and "those people" and Bill interupted and said, "I don't understand the use of the word "them", I thought there was only "us". Perfectly worded and very apt. That's why his appeal crossed party, racial and economic lines like noone else.

I guess I find it interesting that people listen to Charles Barkley saying this type of stuff... If 80% of taxpayers say the same thing, it takes Charles Barkley to make it a worthwhile statement.

Jesus didn't judge his crucifers. Is there someone more deviant than them? Would you say he twisted forgiveness?

That's nearly word for word what T-Cake said when we finished watching it.

I sat at a small bar one night and drank cranberry and grey goose with Sir Charlies until we were the only two left in the place at 2am. Then we got in his denali and drove around looking for another place to drink, but couldnt find anything open. It was a sunday night, mothers day, about 7 years ago. He was in town visiting his mother. The guy is a riot. Very cool and down to earth. But he needs to stick to basketball and light humor.

Barkley and many others who claim to be "thinkers" and progressives need to stop and listen to tehmselves. To paint with such a broad brush and make sweeping statements about Christians as a whole is just assinine and closed minded.

Again, its the hatred of George Bush and Dick Cheney that has spurred this anti-Christian sentiment. Its ashamed you Bush haters cant keep your hate concentrated on him and not include tens of millions of others in your hateful remarks.

I would agree, if that's what he did. But he was pretty specific about which Christians he was talking about. He was using a rifle not a shotgun.

I heard the interview this morning, and it sounded like Wolf was trying to pinpoint exactly which Christians he was referring to and Charles didnt seem to nail anyone down to me. Sounded like all Christians in general to me....maybe I missed something.

By the way, I got drunk with Charles that night and listened and watch his demeanor change as he drank more and more. He seemed drunk in that interview to me. Im just saying.

I think Wolf was trying to give him some wiggle room or an out. But he wasn't taking it. He said several times that he was referring to those that judge gays and choice.

Huh? He stated that Conservatives were not Christians. If that isn't painting with a broad brush, I don't know what is.

Yeah, he was trying to give him a chance to state exactly who it was he was referring to, and he made it clear that he was talking about conservatives as a whole. Thats a broad brush to me....

Thats like me saying all blacks are criminals.....wonder if Charles agrees with that one.

He's referring to the Christian Conservatives. And then further explains which issues he's talking about. So obviously he's not talking about Christian Conservatives who don't judge Gays and Choice, is he? Maybe that's edited out of what you're listening to.
Last time I checked there were no Christian Conservatives that this would apply to other than McCain. And oh, look at this, he doesn't have the support of the Christian Conservatives. They say he's not one of them. Some right on this board.

I think Charles got it right. The people with those issues are cherry picking Christ's message.
