Default Sales Tax in Florida

Just a question on why Florida residents are charged with sales tax on supplement purchases at AF Fitness. If I go to any local store such as Paradise Nutrition, GNC, or even gyms I never pay sales tax on supplements. Is there some sort of loophole that only mail order companies are liable here in Florida?

Just Curious.....

All mail order companies are ordered to charge sales tax to the residents of their state when they purchase. Havent you ever noticed that on Ebay or any other site?

Ulter could tell you more about why though.

I understand that, but what I'm saying is I don't get charged sales tax for supplements I buy in other stores in Florida. I was told by one owner it is considered food.

I'm just trying to figure out why Anafit collects sales taxes on supplement items when none of the other stores in Florida seem to do likewise.

Ahh I see. You know I dont know why that is. I do know that some places in FL I have bought protein bars and not been charged tax and other places I have. Who knows.

It depends on what you're buying. The state seperates vitamins from sports supplements. Some sup stores just ignore the state and don't take the time to seperate the two. If they get caught it's too bad for them.
The AF Store doesn't sell vitamins so there is no place to hide for us.
