Ok, I understand that symetry(sp) is a must when competing and it will give a greater illusion, but I'm 5'9 and I was wondering what a good weight would be when stepping on stage.

I have planned to aim for 185-190 but I always end up comparing myself to others when I look at the pics posted on here.

I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO KNOW. I AM ALSO 5'9". AND WAS PLANNING ON ABOUT THE SAME WEIGHT. BUT WHAT SHOULD MY IDEAL MEASURMENTS BE...

Symmetry does matter but it ties in to your conditioning , shape , and frame. You can have a
situation where one guy will be shorter and thicker and the other guy taller and weights less but if the taller guy is smaller boned and has a smaller waist he can appear that he has better symmetry. Measurements are a good guideline but the proportion of all the measurements make a greater impact then just good measurements. You can have a guy with huge arms but if he has a big waist then the symmetry is off.

The key to good symmetry is to have the shoulders and lats as wide as you can with the waist as small as you can. That is the foundation and from their you want to have the arms compliment the legs in size and thickness.

In addition the "ideal" symmtry that all top bodybuilders try to achieve is the following:

1. The neck , forearms , and calves are about the
same size.

2. The legs are almost as big as the waist.

3. The chest measurement is almost double the
size of the waist.

4. Arms are 2/3 the size of the legs.

I don't think I have ever seen anyone actually achive these exact measurements and proportions but guys who are very close to it are guys like Flex Wheeler and Ronnie Coleman ( 1998 ).

Malike2 and WARLOC...ok,get this..I am 5 feet 11 inches.I have won shows at bodyweights between 170 and 205.Obviously,as I have progressed over the years I have added to my contest weight, but that was never the goal in and of itself. My goal was always to improve my symmetry, proportions, and bring up weaker muscle groups...all while improving on my contest condition.I have never been the biggest in my class, but I have been the tallest.I have won shows simply by having a better physique and better conditioning than the other guys...this is what is MOST important. In other words, there is no such thing as an "ideal weight."However,on average you will see most 5 feet 9 inch guys weighing between 180 on the light side and 220 on the heavier side.Hell, some pros weigh 260 at that height. Also,I have known several successful middleweights at that same height.Bottom line...screw your weight and get shredded!

I agree , don't judge your contest shape by the scale...use the mirror. Bodyweight is relative and better conditioning will always look better then an extra 10 lbs.

WOW, I CAN FEEL THE LOVE....
THANX GOPRO, I APRICIATE YOU TAKING THE TIME TO HELP US. ILL CONCENTRATE MORE ON PROPORTION INSTEAD OF WEIGHT. I GUESS ITS KIND OF LIKE TEACHING YOURSELF TO STAY AWAY FROM THE SCALES AND USE THE CALIPERS.

IM ALSO INTERESTED IN SEING A PIC
