Hi guys, my question is about the final week before contest when cutting down on sodium. What are good low-to-no sodium foods, particularly protein to consume those last few days? I heard turkey was good, but all the frozen turkey breasts at the grocery store have sodium in it. Any other choices? Thanks....

Your gonna find some sodium in pretty much any protein. Turkey tends to be one of the lower, so is chicken breast. Some folks like to boil the bird , it's suppossed to help get some sodium out. I've read where some BBs don't eat any protein on friday, but do supplement with BCAAs.

Sexual....generally you don't want to eliminate sodium completely, but cut it down to very low levels. The last couple of days is usually the time when we are carbing up and a small amount of sodium is needed for a proper carb up.Also, without a little sodium in the system you will tend to flatten out and lose vascularity. So,the small amount of naturally occurring sodium we get from chicken and turkey is ok.Just keep protein levels moderate, drink small amounts of distilled water, don't use any spices or seasonings that contain sodium, and you will be ok.I should say that I have experimented with going to zero sodium the day b4 a show on a few occassions and it has either worked great or failed miserably, that is why I generally recommend leaving in small amounts of sodium...it is healthier and more predictable.

thanks willie and gopro.... so if i had a few chicken breasts, is that considered low enough sodium then for depletion? And you mentioned that you've done "no sodium" before.....what did you eat?

yes, just make sure the chicken is farm fresh, not previously frozen, and not treated with sodium phosphate (usually added for preservation)

Yes,farm fresh as PA says...A few chicken breasts would be fine. When I have done zero sodium I have used about 100 amino acid gel caps(no sodium),distilled water, and carbs that are sodium free. One time I came out flat as hell. One time I came out shredded to the bone. /infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

you should stick with chicken breast, even though it has slightly more sodium than turkey. reason being is that you're going to be introducing a different food into your system that close to a show, and it will have potential to adversely react to your system. and no matterv how small of a reaction it may be, it may affect how you look for that weekend. i believe in keeping things as similar as possible the whole way through, so that the body doesn't freak out.
