View Full Version : Where did you guys learn to pose???
Since I'll be doing my first contest this Oct/Nov I'd like to know where everyone who competes learned how to pose. There aren't too many people who compete in my gym. Are there any videos that anyone would recommend? Or should I find someone and learn from instead??

I am lucky in that posing came to me quite naturally. In fact,I now teach others to pose as a side business.I think the best way to go is to perhaps find an experienced competitor at your gym and ask him to help you.Of course he may want to be paid for his services. If you can't find one at your gym, than perhaps you can attend a show b4 yours in your area and watch everyone pose.If you see someone that is particularly good, than approach him after the show and see if he would be willing to help you out. This is how I get most of my "posing students."If you have no success with finding someone than I would suggest buying 1 or 2 Mr Olympia videos so you can study how the pros do it.You can pick out the poses you like and copy them. Finally,I know there are a couple of videos on the market on "how to pose."Try a web search. If I find one,I'll post it here.Good luck!!!! /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

i'm the same as gopro....i taught myself mainly. i have had people watch and give me advice over the years, but mainly had people watch me. i finally figured out my best posing style for each pose and created good transitions before my last show.....and there is still much i can learn. it's a continual learning curve. the best thing IMO for a first show is to PRACTICE LIKE YOU'RE POSSESSED for the last 8 weeks....and get experienced eyes to watch and give advice as many times a week as you can. also watch others pose on video and go to BBing shows. i believe that's the fastest way to learn good posing.
the main thing to avoid is to stay shyed away from letting people watch you. if you feel embarrassed the first time someone watches you, just imagine how embarrassed you'll be if you wait till the SHOW before people see you....then they won't be so honest as to tell you that you don't look good! it gives good practice to feel eyes on your body offstage so having people judge your body can become a natural thing by the time the showday comes.

Thanks alot for all your help guys. It's greatly appreciated...
