Hey guys! :fightingswords:

I've decided to come back to use the AF Board as a place of accountability for myself as far as training goes. I've been training on and off for the last 6 months or so and have really lacked consistency with just exercising in general. So, I figured that this community is the best place to be held accountable, but also to pull me into the circle of fitness and rekindle the flame that has grown oh so dim.

Ill start with an general update of how I've been since I last left the af community. I'm currently attending U of M - Helena to acquire an Associates in Business Adminstration and I plan to focus on Marketing/Management primarily.

I'm currently employed with Youth Dynamics and work with emotionally challenged youth ages 8-14. This is a very taxing yet rewarding job when you see these kids grow, move on, and start to excell with in there lives especially with some of the backrounds that they come from. I work night shifts currently from 10 pm to 8 am and I'm hoping to switch over to day shifts, because I would rather be able to work/interact with the youth more often then I currently am, but we'll see how that pans out with college.

My training has been geared around a lot of random training, which would include hiking, swimming, running, and softball. As stated above, I've truly lacked consistency in training and sticking with some type of exercise curriculem. I realized that when I use to participate in mixed martial arts that I was training on a regiular basis and had consistency with in that program, because I had team that held me accountable for my training and was always expecting me to be there unless I was dying or on my death bed. With that said, I've decided to get ahold of my old Jiu Jitsu coach and start training with him again. .

Nutritionally speaking, I've done rather well. I tend to keep the garbage/junk food to a bare minimal through out the week, but I could do a better job at eating healthier and monitoring what I eat in general.

My General Stats:

Name - Matt
Age - 19
Height - 5'11
Weight - 182-185 (Fluctuates)
BF % - Not exactly sure, but around 12%?
Body Type -Fairly Lean still, just a lil bit bulky like always

My Goals:

1. Get back into Jiu Jitsu
2. Train regularly at a minimum of 5 days a week, unless I'm dying XD
3. Stay active with in the AF Community and provide support to fellow AFer's, just as I am provided support in my endeavors.
4. Lean out a little more
5. Log in my training log daily and be accountable for my actions.
6. Keep my diet clean and stay away from the garbage/seductive bad foods that bring no good!
7. Remember to stay positive through everything and keep that chin up champ.

Thanks in Advance to all those who took the time to read my rather dragged out post. Also, thanks in advance for all the lurkers, posters, and stalkers that tend to follow along my journey.:nerd:

Matt~

P.S. To my young/old friends - feel free to PM me And catch up for old times sake!

Welcome back Mattie! I was wondering about you recently.

I find that writing out my goals and logging my efforts really helps keep me on track and lets me see, in my own words, what I hold myself responsible to do and in retrospect, what I did.

LOL @ seductive bad foods....yup, that about sums it up.

May 26, 2010

Stretching to be a champion day!

Interval Running - 30 Minutes
Yoga - 45 Minutes

Notes: Simple, easy day, but at least I was able to get myself moving and actually get some exercise in. I'll be working out until Saturday of this week doing double work outs to get my 5-6 in. I'm going to explore the western mountains of Boulder with a group of friends to show them the beautiful waterfall formation back there. It's about a 2-3 hour hike in, but well! worth it to see something so beautiful.

Its mainly been running the last few days and doing some interval workouts. I'm contacting my Jiu Jitsu coach to double check on the classes and should start that next week, but I really need a gym membership lol. Man, how I wish I could afford that hah

Starting up Jiu Jitsu again as of Monday 3-4 times a week and then I'll also be lifting at our MMA place so I won't need to purchase a gym membership which will be nice. This also means Ill actually have something to post hahah

So, I ended up catching something that my roommate had and its basically knocked me on my butt. I really have no clue what it is, but hopefully it won't keep me under to long. Anyways, I did finally get in touch with my old Jiu Jitsu and MMA coaches! THey welcomed me back into training with Hel-Town with open arms hah. If anything Ill be starting up thursday of this week based on how IO am feeling, but I may go in and train tomorrow based on how I feel. I'm hoping to catch the 1:30 p.m. class tomorrow if I feel well enough.

Anyways, once I get in there thursday Ill start posting regularly and Im going to see if there is anyway I can use the weights they have there and do some lifting after practice or before hand. Which would be nice because I really can't spare the extra cash to pay for gym expenses at the moment. Ah, the perks of being a broke college student ona tight budget!

Glad to see you getting back to your roots brutha, good luck with the BJJ and MMA, I'd take 3 hours of rolling on the mats, and striking the mitts/pads over a lifting session any day of the week :)

GI Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Conditioning

June 3, 2010 - Back it finally... YEAH BOY!

Jiu-Jitsu
Went through a variety of full guard/half guard passes
From there we worked on a few submissions Arm bar, Triangle, Kimura (Spelling?)

Note: I know Im not being totally detailed about the jiu jitsu and it really doesn't seem like I did a whole lot, but for me it was a lot. The assistant instructor is working with me one on one during class, because I have to go about half the speed due to my leg and the lack of flexibility with it. I know its been a year since the injury, but I still having nagging pain and limited mobility, so its nice to see that there willing to work for me.

Keep in mind the rest of class did a bit more then I did, but I did my best to keep up to par!

Conditioning
20 minutes of full stretching, then went straight into circuit training.

Circuit #1
Rotated through each station twice and 5 minutes at each station

Tire Flips - 100-159 pounds? There was a few there and I chose the heaviest
Hitting Sledge Hammer to Tire
Throwing 15lb ball at dummy, dropping, getting back up, then repeat
Rotating mounting, guard, and arm positions on dumby
Bag 1 - Punching Combination's 1 through 5
Bag 2 - Mid and Low Kicks
Jump Rope - I cannot jump rope for the life of me.. :rl:
8 Reps of Pull Ups/Dips, then run the stairs, repeat.

Circuit 2
Rotated through twice and 3 minute intervals

Sledge Hammers - Punching parallel with them in hand
Dumbbell Set 1 - 5lb's Punching at an angle of 45 Degree's
Weight Ball set 1 - 20lb Throwing it in the air, then it drops to the floor, repeat - Freaking heavy!
Dumbbell Set 2 - 10lbs Punching 1-2 Punching Combo's at 45 Degree's
Weight Ball set 2 - 15lb BTN Presses
Dumbbell Set 3 - 15lb Punching non-stop towards the floor
Weight Ball set 3 - 10lb Throwing and catching the ball
Bag - 1-2-Kick and 1-2-3-Kick Combo's

Notes: I had to sit out of the last bit of practice because they where doing contact boxing drills and with my issue with blacking out and I didn't want to risk it, neither did my coaches lol. I'll be making an appointment here by next week since my insurance finally kicked in with my work, but Im expecting the usual CAT Scan or MRI to see whats going on up there. So, Ill keep you all informed.

Final Thoughts: Well overall, that was about a 4 hour practice with back to back classes and I made it through it all! I think I did really well and it's awesome that my coaches/instructors are working around my injuries. They all welcomed me back with opened arms and it was nice to become re-acquainted with old friends/team mates!

I really don't ever see myself competing in MMA ever, but I do see tournaments for Jiu-jitsu and grappling around the corner in the near future. For now, that is what I'll set my sights on!!!

I don't plan on doing any Boxing/MMA classes because of a minor scare tonight where I got nailed in the side of the head by accident. It was a big enough scare to learn the lesson of seeing a doctor first before getting into anything that is full contact again hah.

As for my training schedule.. Ill be doing GI Jiu Jitsu twice a week and may pick up a grappling class as well and I will be doing the conditioning classes three times a week. Frankly, I think I'll stick to it and leave it at that. I figure it's better to not try my luck at life with this type of injury.

Anyways, GOD BLESS!

Matt~

P.S. I was sick earlier this week so don't rag on me for not attending classes sooner XD

Amen to that! I'm not really going to get back into MMA ever, but I love the ground game and work. So, I'm figuring a few grappling/jiu jitsu tournaments are in the near future! I hope to have you follow along my friend!

Anyone who has ever participated in BJJ, Pankration, or any kind of ground game knows what you are talking about brutha!! Even at 25-50% it's work :boxing:

You are being smart bro, you know your limits and how far too push before enough is a enough! Take your time, work your way back in like you are

Lets us know how the test go bro! If you need to vent or talk holla, I've been there done that! It's a scary process for sure, give it to the big guy he's looking out for ya!! But then again you already know that ;)

Update.. I didn't bail on training! So, whoever thought that you can buzzzzzz OFF!!!

But seriously, my doctors asked me to lay off of training after I blacked out at Jiu jitsu practice and also ended up doing it twice at church. I just had my CT Scan Friday and am waiting for the test results at the moment. So, we'll see what happens there you know?

Updates....

I hate doctors for taking there sweet time in getting back to you.. It seems like an eternity since I had that CT of my head and still nothing back.. So, I'm calling them by thursday.. Now, I realize, technically.. I'm not suppose to be training, but the stubborn side of is starting to kick in. I'll have to get this template up here when I have some time, but basically im running 4 times a week and while running I integrate everything from push ups, pull ups, sit ups, plyometrics, and any other calisthentics I can while on my runs. Workouts are ranging about 45 minutes to an hour.

On top of that.. I've been out wake boarding/Jet Skiing at least 5 times in the last 2 weeks on top of hiking/camping the last two weekends..

No blackouts to report thus far. I do get really bad head rushes, but other then that I've been fine. I'm also having my roommate go with me on my runs/workouts and always go with people when hiking to be on the safe side just in case my body decides to give out on me..

I really just want to get back into Jiu Jitsu.. There is nothing like hitting the mats for a 4 hour training session 3 times a week to get that blood pumping!

I'll keep you all posted and Ill start posting my out door ventures lol. I've been training Wednesday-Sunday mainly, because of my awesome work schedule.

Peace, Love, Rock and Roll.. I don't feel like the Sex & Drugs personally, but each to there own buahaha.

Matt~
