i feel like a junkie talking about this but whatever... who are you to judge. i put on alot of weight with oxycontin. actually lowered the dose 40mg's less a day. all my research says that pain meds cause weight gain. anybody ever use one that hasnt made you pile on a ton? please dont say aspirin or naproxen. i wish that stuff would help me but im on a different level here. im 26 years old and my doctors say that my joints look like they are 3 times my age.

Hmmm... I never heard that. I wonder what the mechanism is? I know if you read the list of side effects of many meds it will say weight gain ... and the exact one will say weight loss! I wonder if the weight gain with pain meds is associated with lack of moving - exercise due to pain?

^^^this is the exact reason. Opiates also slow down digestion as well. this can result in temporary weight gain.

opiates slow down everthing, key word there is termporary, you should level off when the meds stop. Soon I hope. Gh helped me with the temp weight gain a few years back.

I agree with Killer. I don't think it's so much the pain meds that are contributing to the weight gain but more or less the way it effects your body movment, responce etc.

I've been loading up on hydrocodone for the past month due to my injury and haven't had any issues with unwanted weight gain. Infact I'm losing weight.

They killed my appetite, and I can go along with the slows digestion statement. I lost over 30 lbs in 3 wks after my accident. Extremely depressing.... :(
