This is my first season of rugby sevens... or even rugby for that matter. LOL! I've had two training sessions with the coach and one real practice: I'm hooked! Now that I have a feel for where I need to work on things I've decided to start a new log.
First one on one session:
About 45 minutes lifting; followed by what I like to call an hour of torture...
Tempo running
Line sprints (sprint ten yards, drop do ten pushups, get up run ten yards, drop do ten squat thrusts... you get the idea) x 200 yds
Stairs (sprint up, walk down) x 10
Time out for pukage
Random agility drills
Torture: 200 yards of 'sprints' while being tackled. I say torture because she outweighs me by close to 40lbs. Checking in hockey is one thing; being wrapped up and hauled down over and over and over... ugh. Bet your ass I puked again.
First practice:
About 45 minutes lifting
Agility drills
Passing drills
Tempo running
Stairs (carrying a ball)
Jingle Jangles - similar to line sprints but more torturous
Second one on one session:
Mauling/tackling (not as brutal as the first session)
Agility work
Critical power runs: Sprint as hard as you can for two minutes, then rest for four, then repeat. I managed to survive 4 reps total. My knees aren't used to this.
Passing work; get comfortable with grip on the ball
Kicking work
Legs and lungs are smoked. I love it!
No lifting until Saturday. I'll fill in the details when I have more time to sit.

My sister played rugby in college and I went to a couple of her games. I have a special respect for rugby players, it is something I could never do. Good luck with everything!!

I'm with vball on this one, tons of respect for girls who play rugby. You can get some nasty injuries, be careful!
Ahhhh puke practices.... the training of champions! ;) :hi5:

Being careful in sports isn't something I'm spectacular at. I have managed to survive 17 years of ice hockey with minimal damage, but rugby is a whole different type of physical abuse. I'm super pumped about learning a sport that is this challenging. Thanks for the cheers.
A brief update: from my toes to my ears, every muscle in my body is begging me for the weekend off. I may do some light work on Saturday, but we'll see. I have homework for rugby too... need to learn the rules.

Not trying to kill myself, just working on endurance. I'm not as strong as I would like to be, but it is what it is for now. I wasn't able to meet up with the coach this week due to schedule conflicts, but I did hit the track to do sprint drills and critical power runs.

D~D~! I am absolutely tickled your playing rugby! I love the fact that whatever you try to do, you completely emerse yourself in it. From one mauler to another, smash-mouth, head butting, shin raking fun, "Be A Predator". Your now a member of a wolf pack. Enjoy!!!!
(But use a mouth-piece, and stay beautiful) :flowers:

Aesirian ~ I'm a dive in head first kind of woman, especially when it comes to athletics. Rugby definitely fits well with the nature of my competitiveness. I love team sports and the more brutally demanding they are the more fun I have. And yes, I plan on protecting my smile.
Roadwarrior ~ As do you my friend.
Big Mama ~ I've been hearing that a lot lately from friends and family  It's us crazies that make the world go 'round, right? :redevil:

Awww, thanks hun. I've been keeping my head above water, for the most part, through these last few weeks of school. Rugby is a no go due to schedule conflicts with work :( but I'm going to stick with the conditioning side of it. I'm really enjoying the critical power runs and running stairs with a weight vest. When I have the time to train hard again (come on June 9th!) I'm going to put my head down and get my strength back; maybe give strongman a shot later this summer. I'll be sharing all of my adventures with my AF family.
Ohhhhhhh strongman....great idea.......that's where I got my feet wet in strength competition.

DD... you are one kick ass chick. School is your priority now and that's the right thing. With your drive, you will excel at anything you set your mind to. Go get 'em kiddo.

Thanks RW. Always a pleasure to have your wise words cross my road. :)
I tend to keep my goals ahead of me at all times. Although I do have a specific target in my sites I'm not one to settle. My brief attempt at rugby (for now) was just another way of keeping myself fresh. I will return to it when the time is right. Strongman is something I can toss into my training at my leisure, but I doubt individual competition is anywhere on my path. If what I do doesn't benefit the people around me (IE: my teammates) I feel 'misplaced'. Hard to describe so I won't attempt. My lifting is for ME, always will be, but the drive behind it is more than the me.
Finals for the quarter are this coming week. I plan on attempting to pickle my liver the weekend after :drink: The week after that: new goals + new plan of attack + new diet = a beast from the past. :redevil:

Looking forward to seeing the beast again DD. Not that you aren't impressive as hell now.
Good to hear how you know your nature so well. Understanding what makes one tick will lead to a much more fulfilling and meaningful life.
Study hard and do well then enjoy. May your life be full of joy and laughter DD.
