View Full Version : Pixie's "In The Meantime" Log

So, as is the "policy" around here, I'm starting a new log because I did a meet. Right now, I have absolutely nothing planned next though. We are getting into our season of hosting powerlifting meets. We have one the end of April, one in June, a small one for firefighters in July, another in July/August and then October/November. We are not hosting the one in June (Plano), the firefighter one (Lewisville), or the July/August (Houston area) meet, but at least, I will be helping out a lot. And, that's cool. I think the next meet I could possibly do is in September in Louisiana. I'll play it by ear for now though. I want to make sure G-Rex gets to do a few meets, and as always, I have some other things I'd like to take care of before I commit myself completely. Doesn't mean I won't do it, just means "we'll see". If I do that meet, I'll probably only bench again. I doubt I'll have time to get used to holding a straight bar and be able to do anything I'd be satisfied with. If I only bench, I'd like to hit 400+.

Other than that, I'd like to keep up with the recomping of the body. I see some changes. The scale hasn't really changed, but I'm seeing more definition coming through on my arms and calves for sure, and a little muscle peaking out in my quads. Lumpies are starting to disappear too. :jumpjoy: Frankly, I don't give a rat's ass what the scale actually reads if I feel comfortable in my skin. I don't right now exactly, but I'm happier for sure. I'm on the right track, so I want to keep it that way... I'm already down 15 pounds from meet day (but much of that was bloat... ugh).

The plan at this point is to stick with more higher rep stuff that will help with the recomping, but it'll also help me get stronger/keep my strength. Yes, I'll go heavy from time to time because otherwise I'll get really bored. I need to have some fun...

Katie is going to do the meet in June. Normally I'd just do the same training as her, but I don't think I'll do it 100%. I may stick with some of her weights and do more reps. We've also changed our training days some.

Monday is Bench day
Wednesday is Deadlift day
Friday is my free day to do as I please... bench, cardio, whatever
Saturday is Squat day.

We did this so that we didn't have to compete for equipment. We have our choice of whatever we want... bars, benches, monos, etc. We'll see how it works. Sometimes I wish my schedule was the same as G's, but then again, I like not having to worry about what others are doing when I pick my exercise.

So, that being said... let's begin...

Elliptical - 5 minutes
Stretching

Bench - 50% of desired 1RM raw for sets of 12
45 x 5
65 x 5
85 x 5
105 x 5
125 3 x 12

** That sucked. I move fast to begin with. Knowing I have to do 12 reps makes me try to go faster because I want to get the sucker done.

Close grip bench
75 x 8
85 4 x 8

Help get 2 people into their brand new tight briefs = grip/forearm work... lots of it. Probably could count as cardio too. :)

IR/ER with monster mini
3 x 30 each

Lat pulldown - close grip
50 x 8
70 3 x 8

Abs on a ball
4 x 15

So, with regards to the cardio, I didn't start off too hot, but I'll improve on it. Everything else was good. I actually feel sore today, which very rarely happens. Makes me very satisfied with this workout.

Elliptical - 5 minutes
Stretching

Buffalo Bar Box Squat
55 x 8
105 x 8
135 x 8
165 x 8 Add belt
185 x 5

** Ok, yeah, I could have kept going, but I didn't. If felt like forever since I squatted and I'm still fairly sore from yesterday's workout. The reps sucked, but they're good for me.

4-way hip with doubled mini
2 x 20 each

Seated rows
4 x 70

Attempt at both lunges and step ups, but my ankle wasn't going to have anything to do with that today.

Abs on the GHR with green band
4 x 15

Elliptical - 5 minutes

I was kind of poking along through this workout. Tired, maybe a little because of the soreness, and because I knew we were going to be there a while. Need to pick up the pace and add more exercises. But, otherwise, everything went well, even added a little cardio at the end.

Hi, TIE!!

Thanks, H. Got to get those high reps done quickly so it doesn't feel like you're doing so much, right?!?

Things have been busy with the meet we were hosting in Austin.

Been working out, dealing with a slight bicep tweak (on my bad shoulder), but just no time....

Thanks, Aesirian.

Thanks, Tweak. I had a nasty, deep bruise develop, so it was uncomfortable, but it's good now.

Hope the bruise heals up quick.

Wow... oops... Sorry for not updating... I didn't even see that anyone posted anything in here after my last post.

Since my last post, I kind of put less emphasis on my training to help Katie get through her meet. She did pretty well, opening up with what she had as her thirds at her meet in March and giving a good effort on some higher weights. I would have passed one of her deadlifts that she "missed", but I wasn't in the chair. As G-Rex said in his new log, we also made a change in our training. We moved to a new facility, hopefully this atmosphere will be a huge positive. I think it will. It'll be nice to train with Ray and Matt again. Plus, there's the added bonus of Tim and Chad, and everyone is so friendly there. I see less hate, disgusted looks, yelling and frustration in our future.

I kind of have no real purpose in my training at this time. Just training. I will always have some aches and pains from previous injuries, but right now, they are doing ok. I promise, I'll start posting my log up here again. Maybe I'll start this afternoon.

Just saying Hello Ms. Pixie. Good to hear things are moving towards the positive for you and G.

Thanks and Hi, RW. Just taking the good and bad of each situation. When the bad starts to outweigh the good, you simply have to make a change... make it better. And, I think that's what we've done... finally.

I'm going to start a new log... I've been so bad about this one.
