Okay, so I'm wondering if I should ride my bike every day or just the days I don't lift? OR.............. how about riding more the days I don't lift and half of that on the days I do lift?

For example:
Training Days; 3 miles or 20 minutes
Off Days: 6 miles or just over 30 minutes

Thoughts?? SS, RB

Well think about it. Do you still walk from the parking lot into work everyday even if you have to squat that night?

So I'd say doing some light cardio everyday wouldn't have a negative impact on your training as long as you are eating/sleeping enough and not overdoing the cardio.

Are you riding to improve your cardiovascular system or for weight/fat loss JR?

Ease into it, but there's no real problem with riding daily. Obviously, the time to try out a new distance would not be before your squat session, but overnight should be enough recovery for anything that doesn't involve waking up in a ditch.
In time, it'll be so second nature that spending half a day on the bike just means you need a couple extra snacks.
I blew right by the ease into it part J!! LOL!! I hit six miles from day one. That longer day is tougher for me. I get a good heart rate and am very tired. I've only done it four times now but I don't mind it at all. SS, RB

Both Bev. I'm getting down to under 290, maybe head for 280 so that walking around is easier. I also want to work my heart in a better way. My blood was a bit thick on my last panel and my good cholesterol a little low. I started taking Niacin and added in cardio to help with the ticker. SS, RB

Well you're listing 6 miles as half an hour...remember one of the things I did before I discovered barbells ;)
Since you're feeling fine with what you're doing, no reason to cut back. Being tired when you're on the bike, and for a short while after getting off, really won't impact anything in a couple of hours if you're eating.

Oh, and thick blood can have a variety of causes. You can have super slow blood while being in good cardio shape.
I'm on TRT and the blood is thicker with the added test in the system.

Thanks J. SS, RB

As long as you're not peaking for a meet I think every day is a great plan. A little less intensity and time on training days and more time/intensity on your off days.
It's good for you in so many ways. Heart being top priority.

To get the most bang for your buck use the maximum heart rate formula.
220 - your age x .65 (low end)

220 - your age x .85 (high end)

My heart is going at about 1,000,000,000 beats per minutes after the first mile. Is that a bit high? LOL!!

My heart was around 145-150 bpm yesterday so I backed off a bit. I can tell when it's getting up there by my breathing. I suppose I'll look into one of those fancy monitors. SS, RB

What do you weigh now RB?

I came down from 312 to 293ish and its already impacting my BP nicely.

My doc suggested I give blood to get the RBC down....just a thought.

I'm right between 295-300. My bp has always been fine.

The RBC is a concern BUT I had a false-positive on the Hep B test and now I'm banned for life. I had just had blood work done before that happened. The VA tested me for everything so I knew it was negative. I went back and had another test done to be sure and IT was negative. I took all the information to the blood bank and was informed that even though it was a false negative the FDA won't allow my status the change EVER!! I can do therapeutic draws but need a scrip to do that. It's just a pain that I don't need. SS, RB

With the continual pleas from the blood bank to get people out for the blood drives, that just seems criminally bogus. Donors get stickers that say stuff like "I just saved four lives"...of course that's often not the exact case, but how do they spin the banning into a CYA?

I've been giving blood since I was 16 and this was a HUGE slap in my face J!! SS, RB

You'll also find everything gets easier & runs less hard when you're conditioned for this new type of activity. First time I stepped on a step mill I thought I was going to die. These days 20 min is relaxing.

You should do your rides in your singlet and wearing your CPAP machine. That would be awesome.

I have been banned as well RB. Only my stupid *ss honesty. I went to give blood and when asked if I ever did anything....before I could think I opened my mouth and said..I did a couple of IM cycles! They listed me as IV user and wouldn't take my blood. I told them if they were going to ban me at least change it to IM....they told me I could appeal it. Since there isn't any proof maybe I should!

Anyway....I have good blood too. Had all my Hep A and B shots and am good to go.

(yea..color me stupid! That was well before they made it illegal.)

No problems riding on workout days, just give yourself recovery time and food before lifting.
