This month's Life Extension magazine has a feature article "The 7 Pillars of Weight Loss."
Couldn't find a web link for it. I think they post it later after selling as many magazines as possible.
In brief:
Eating less and exercise alone don't work. The "Seven Pillars" are:
Restore Insulin Sensitivity - chromium, magnesium, cocoa polyphenols, and fish oil. Optionally consider prescription metformin.
Restore Youthful Homone Balance - DHEA and testosterone for men. Cytomel for women.
Control Rate of Carbohydrate Absorption - 5 grams of fiber per meal, preferably oats and barley.
Increase Physical Activity - No recommendation, just do something that makes you move.
Restore Brain Serotonin - Tryptophan
Restore Resting Energy Expenditure Rate - fucoxanthin and pomegranate seed oil.
Eat to Live a Long and Healthy Life - Avoid food cooked at high temp.
Some of this is "well DUH" but the mainstream press is starting to get it.
I'd never heard of fucoxanthin - anyone try it?
