View Full Version : Ladies - do NOT learn to pose from a GUY

11-19-2000, 10:07 AM
OK, OK, so maybe a man IS capable of choreographing a routine and teaching a female bber mandatories.....but, by GOD, at the competition I went to last nite - it was fairly OBVIOUS who learned from whom.

WE ARE GIRLS (or ladies or biatches or females - whatever you want to insert here to make this "politically correct")! FOR GOD'S SAKE - MOVE LIKE ONE!....and NO - THIS DOES NOT MEAN GET DOWN ON ALL FOURS, or FEEL YOURSELF UP!

JEEPERS - If you are going to make the decision to compete, drop a few bucks, hire a competent trainer/choreographer and present yourself well. I'm not talking nervousness here. I'm talking (what do you call that pose?) where you bend forward at the waist w/arms extended and rotate your open hands forward and back like you are opening jars for example.

True, some women are more "fem" than others, some mistake "sleaze" for femininity - I'm sure that if these chicks had realized the importance of these details perhaps they would not have made these mistakes (I'm trying to give the benefit of the doubt, here.)

And yes, I know that the judging is done in the AM, however, I feel that these poor examples of "presentation of the overall package" just add to the negative stereotypes that are associated with women's bodybuilding.

...just my .02

I wouldnt say learning to pose from a man is a bad thing- you just need to find a man who is knowledgeable & experienced & someone who takes into account that you are female when teaching you to pose.....obviously woman have different curves & lines then men & a skilled choreographer takes all that into consideration. I have seen women who need a mans help---all they do is get up on stage & dance & hit half poses, and in that case could benefit from a knowledgeable man....

The problem alot of time ain't the music..

It the shitty PA system most venues have, so no matter what you got playing it sounds like a wax paper orchestra..

Point well taken.

I think posing like a guy is the lesser of two evils when taking into consideration "dancing around"....and OH MY GOD, shaking your ass like a stripper!

GO GET SOME QUALIFIED ASSISTANCE! Nothing worse than working your ass off, overdieting, over training, not knowing about "biting your suit", tanning products, etc....getting up on stage and looking GODAWFULL. We all start somewhere - if you guys show anyone that tape I WILL hurt you!....but if you're going to compete - do it right. It will be a much more positive experience all the way around.

I just wanted to update this post a bit and give credit where credit is due. I met the guy who will be helping FC learn mandatories and such and can I say that he helped me a bit and I was quite pleased....he payed very close attention to the tiniest details (how to hold your hands and fingers, etc) which mean a lot to a female's presentation. Men and women are different and they should pose differently. There is nothing worse than seeing a woman schlub across stage like she has her schwanz duct-taped up to fit into her posing suit and have her hit poses in such a masculine fashion as to leave you little doubt that she really DOES need the duct tape after all!

Yes, FC is going to be difficult to beat. but, dammit, I am going to enjoy doing it!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

I'm gonna be ULTRA politically correct and say that gender doesn't matter when it comes to who helps you with contest prep. I would have NEVER gotten up on a stage without the constant, gentle persuasion of a man who knows what the judges look for, what the audiences like, and the BIG difference between men and women bodybuilders. He did all my choreopgraphy, taught me to pose and how to put on tanning goop, and gave me lots of feedback about my music. If ever I was going to pay a personal trainer to help me out, he would be the one. So go easy on the guys. They're not ALL bad. And BTW NO, this guy was not a lover/partner or anything close. Just a really helpful coach. Priceless.
