Hello all, my name is Chris. I've been powerlifting since I was 14 (THSPA) and I currently compete in the APF and train at The Warehouse Gym in League City, TX

My best lifts are 745/465/570 at 259 at the 2009 APF Texas Classic.

I've recently taken some time off after the birth of my son, but I'm now getting back into the swing of things. I'm taking it slow, as I haven't touched a weight in almost two months.

Yesterday was the first day back.

2/16 - Bench

Thank you Heather. :) It was an awesome meet for y'all as well. It was an awesome venue, had tons of room, great spotters and loaders, and fair judging. You can't ask for more than that.

I use a pair of Double Ply Metal Viking briefs. They're going on two years old and I need to get the hips and legs tightened up, as my briefs slide on in about 15 seconds.

Thanks RW, my pulls aren't as far off as I thought they were. I'm really hammering technique as I don't want to have elbow problems during this training cycle like I did during my last one.

I have a small collection of shirts from different gyms, my wife makes fun of me for it. :lol:

That's great!! I can't wait to see how you do at the meet. Since Zach knows more about the computer system now, I might, just might, get to see a little more of the meet this time. Rather than just the computer screen. ;)

Cool.. I think I got mine figured for the august meet.. I'm also gonna cut and compete at 220, since I'm stuck at 234 anyway.. so, first geared meet and first weight cut.. haha. Excited to share the platform with ya bro!

Hopefully I'm close enough to where I'll only have to cut about 5 pounds for weight in, but if I'm over that, I'll probably go 275. I cut 13lbs once, so I know I can get there from where I'm at, but I swore I'd never do it again. :D

20 over time with reduced BF% or 20 in water over the last few days before compete? If the latter, it will be tough to be 100% for the meet. I've cut for tournaments and anything over 10 is tough to be 100% for me. Up to 10 is easy stuff. I try to keep my walkaround weight between 245 and 250 so 242 is an easy cut.

The bench has definitely taken a hit by not training it for a bit, while my squat and DL seem to be progressing nicely. I just can't win when it comes to benching. :( :lol:

The stronger you are the more you'll get out of the gear RW. Gear is very very (very!) confining, and you have to be strong enough to control the gear by pushing against it, which is counter to what instinct will tell you...instinct is to get away from the pain. The gear will cut, pinch and bruise you.
Maybe that's why so many PL's look like mean, grumpy bast...uh, guys. LOL

Thanks C... I was hoping to average about a 30% gain over raws with equipment. That will give me the numbers I want ... at least until I get stronger and get bigger numbers. :praying: My raw bench in the gym is somewhere between 375 and 400 but I don't have a meet number so it's not official.

I know what you mean already Bev... the crease of my thigh to hips bled the first time I wore my briefs and the DL suit made feel like I could not breath when I got into proper setup position. My belt regularly leaves bruises on my midsection. I LOVE IT!!! Now I need to work on my mean grumpy guy look. :)

Yeah it is, especially when you have Shrek hands like I do. :lol: :rofl: We have a Rolling Thunder and Circus DB that's 170 with a 3" handle that I've been training with as well. I figure training with both of those will help me keep a hold of my deads. :D

Thanks RW, this is the best my dead has felt in a long time. It would appear that my DL responds better to reps more than singles.

Thanks Fellas! I think the volume in this program is what has helped my pull the most. I noticed an improvement in my pull during my last meet cycle using Wendler's 5/3/1. I feel comfortable that I won't miss a pull above my knees, as the program has taught me to grind through and really focus on technique.

Best bench session in a while. I sent my shirt to Ginny last Thursday, I hope it will be back in time to get into it next Thursday. I had the chest plate taken in 1" and the sleeves shortened 1.25". I can't wait to try it out. :D

Most of the time in the off season I won't use chains or bands unless someone is training for a meet and then they have training priority. Nothing helped my deadlift more this training cycle than straight weight Defcit Pulls and RDLs.

One of the little details that helps me stay chest up in the hole is to try to squeeze my elbows under the bar down low, not sure if that would work for your setup. Either way, I know you will SFW at the meet!

It is indeed, meet days always creep up on me. The SM Contest is being held in the parking lot of Harley Davidson of Kingwood. I saw that the APF meet in Beaumont is the next weekend. I may try to get over there and help out if need be, it'll depend on what's going on that weekend.
