View Full Version : Late night eating
IM a lil confused in regards to this late night eating thing. I know people try to stay away from big meals (esp 2 many carbs) after a certain time to prevent it being stored as fat due to the slower metabolisim at night. This is what confuses me.....If that meal is part of ( using any number) you maintenace calorie consumption, lets say 3000 why would the late night eating cause a problem.

Because your at rest metabolism is so low as you sleep that most of those calories are put into fat cells.

Stay from carbs before bed if you're dieting. Cutting them out a few hours before sleeping makes a world of difference.
...and furthermore, eat carbs only to fuel your workouts. By carbs, I mean starchy and sugary ones. Veggies and some fruits/nuts are okay.

Most of this is relating to carb manipulation to minimize fat deposition.
I'd strongly encourage a pre-sleep protein drink to see you through the night. I used to drink milk and eggs before sleeping. I typically try to go at least three hours after my evening meal before taking my bedtime supps. Half an hour later I'll have my protein, maybe with a bowl of nuts or some cheese, and then sleep. You might want to skip the nuts.

Carbs are problematic late in the day because insulin sensitivity is poorer then. (Obviously, if you're training in the evening you can still have carbs pre- and post-workout because the workout will obviate the fat storage/insulin sensitivity issues.)
As for late-night meals in general, as long as you're tracking your food intake and making sure what you eat at that time fits into your daily goals, there's nothing wrong with a high-protein/fat meal before bed. The "taper meal size throughout the day" thing is pretty much one of those rules for normal (read: not on this board) dieters who don't have the planning skills/willpower to come up with and stick to a meal plan.
Thank you for all the responses.....:Rawk:

What about eating 1/2 cup of oats and a whey shake around 8:30PM PWO? Bedtime is usually around 9:30 - 10:00.
Thanks.

id have that pwo shake with water and save the oats for breakfast.
then at bedtime id mix your protein with milk and pb or natty pb (if you prefer) for yr bedtime protein time releaser.

This was hard for me to register, so if it is hard for you,
Just add 100mg Fina to your cycle, any simple carbs after 4::00 PM will remind you not to eat carbs late in the day, or you will drown.
Never done Fina but I ve heard the sweats (fueled by carbs) can be unreal...I guess that in itself would make you give up late night carbs
