ok, so today I did some forearm stuff with my workout. I was talking to this guy at the gym that was spotting me on a exercise, which btw, I went up 5 pds on the db, yeah yeah yeah its probably not much but given the exercise I hadn't pushed myself more with the #s, so I did it with 20s and got 6 reps in easy.

either way, he told me I should be doing some type of forearm exercise to help strengthen my bicep routine?

thoughts, opinions...what works for you folks?

thanks

you're only as strong as your weakest link in the lift. I have a naturally strong grip from 17 years of hockey...holding weight isn't a problem for me, but since I started doing more forearm training my back strength has gone up tremendously.

Grip is important to pulling lifts yes, but not in the way that he's probably referring to. Do dead arm hangs from the pull up bar... hold on until your grip fails, rest for a minute and repeat. Works like a charm.

static holds either from a pullup bar or holding a heavy ass barbell in a similar way. farmers walks are also good. and regular heavy DLs, jump shrugs always improve grip. the thing about forearms helping bicep routine is either pure BS or true if you are into geigh workouts... :D

If your looking for forearm size reverse curls always worked for me.

For grip strength axle deads, and farmers have worked wonders for me. I just finished no worse than 3rd in 5 grip events just by doing those 2.

First off forearm and grip strength are to complete different things, yes they cross but very little.

For forearm i like pinwheels, and pullups using a rope or towel(great for grip also. For grip i respond the best by doing hex holds and other holds where my fingers are separated and palm is open.

For forearm strentgh start using straps and use more weigth and watch them grow.

Rolling thunder, hex holds, axle holds, hanging holds. SS, RB

it has been my experience that a good grip and strong forarms can help to fix miner tech flaws while performing lifts

my forearms have really been coming on lately. that subscription to hustler has really paid off on my dead lifts.

If your still doing events for strongman, your forarms should be fine. If u want to add a few extra things like static holds, thumbless shrugs, and maybe even a few sets of Captains of crush that would be more than enough. With grip/forearm strength less is def more.

"thumbless shrugs" great exercise training the traps and forearms same time just dont add to much extra forarms can over train!

I always did them for sets of twenty going up in weight until I failed and recorded that weight i missed 20 reps at ... and then tried to beat it next time...I think I did every other week because of all the other stuff I did that worked my forearms!

Along the lines of forearm training... if anyone finds a way to increase hand size, please let me know.

Polski's advice was right on - timed hands, fat bar shrugs, maybe some pinch grip work and you should be good to go. Training grip once per week should be plenty. If you want to actually train forearm muscles then behind the back wrist curls with a barbell are a good one.

Actually in polish slang its a phrase similar to "spanking the monkey", it might be a bit dated tho.
