View Full Version : Olympic Training for Cardio

I am working on my strength with the classic 5x5 program, but I am trying to lean out a little without Doing regular cardio. I play the football with my friends on the weekends but that is about it. I have been doing cleans and clean and jerks at the end of my workouts and they have been kicking my a$$. 15 sec on 30 sec off for 10. It feels great to not stare into space for an hour, but I need to know if doing hiit like this is as effective as sprinting? Thanks

I think it has it's place depending on your goals. I do a bar complex in place of treadmill work prior to my lifting

I do these in order w/ out stopping - usually do 3 sets.

Deadlift x3
Hang Power Clean x3
Front Squat x3
Push Press x3
Back Squat x3
BTN PP x3
GM x3

Thanks A L, I am trying to lean and get some functional strength back. Haven't done Oly lifts in about 1.5 years. Figured it was time to jump back on the wagon, Plus my other lifts tend to go back up if I run Snatch, clean.

Do you use the same weight for each? How much rest vs, how many sets,
and what is:

I have something oddly similar
Barbell Complex
4 sets total, 6 reps each of

dead lift
bent over row, but for me it is upright row
hand clean
front squat
front push press
back squat
I use 95lb for these.

I try to do the workouts from either mtnathlete.com or militaryathlete.com. My goals are different than many here. I am training for:

escape and evasion from the police/government
search and rescue
TEOFWAWKI
so a crossfit syle workout is best of my needs.

Yep, same weight. You'd have to b/c you do all the lifts back to back. It's a dead into a hang clean into a front squat, into a etc,etc, etc

I use minimal rest - probably 2 minutes max. I do 2-3 sets typically.

Great, Thanks guys I will be kicking my own a$$ with these tonight. I will bring the wife with so she can get a good laugh. On a side note, any really good Oly lifting Routines if I wanted to switch after my 5x5?
