Holy crap, never do this boys and girls. I'd like to think I can hit legs with the best of them. A good friend of mine and I have committed to a comp. this coming August. For the past 4 wks. we've been changing up our routine like crazy hitting all kinds of exercises each week for all of the dif. muscle groups. And I'd like to think we've been hitting quads pretty good but for some reason we haven't hit free squats for about three wks now.
Man have I paid for it dearly after going back to them, jeebus! It's as if I've never touched the squat rack ever. I don't think I'll ever do that again. I'm fully aware how good squats are but I had no idea the recruitment of muscles involved on squats. Damn near everything hurts like hell south of my waist.

Funny thing for me is that after injuring my knee, I wasn't able to do free squats seriously (and still can't really) for over a year. During that time, all I did was leg press, some extentions, and SLDL's.
I lost literally no size whatsoever on my legs. They measure the same. Of course, they didn't grow, but I didn't lose anything.
Granted, after a year of no squatting I can still free squat 500+ if I wanted to. Same with deadlifting 600+ without deadlifting for a year. I think that's the only part of my genetics I like, muscle retention. Everything else sucks, LOL

Those are some sick numbers gj.
Seems like leg extensions would have aggravated a knee problem. Are you out of the woods yet w/ the knee?
