For most of us, when we're sick, we seldom feel like eating and typically have to force ourselves into the act. Recently, I've come down with a cold and have revealed myself to be no exception. As I was preparing my second meal of the day, it occured to me that the body is quite possibly in need of a greater number of calories while sick to meet the demands of an already over taxed immune system. That being stated, would it be advised to consume more calories while sick to aid in the immune systems efforts to defeat the invading organism? Just thought. Anybody have anything to add?

Good point.
Do you starve a cold and feed a fever when you're feeling under the weather? Or is it the other way around? Good news -- starving is never the correct answer.

When you eat a nutritional, well-balanced diet, many other factors fall in place that keep your body functioning optimally. Foods that are rich in nutrients help fight infections and may help to prevent illness. Because a wide array of nutrients in foods -- some of which we may not even know about -- are essential for wellness, relying on dietary supplements (vitamins and minerals) for good nutrition may limit your intake to just the known nutritional compounds rather than letting you get the full benefit of all nutrients available in food.

I was sick as a dog yesterday and could only put down shakes and a few veggies, etc.

My day was horrible, and I'm not very happy with myself. Drinking + bulking diet for a contest don't mix well..........
