I have been trying to convince my father to get on some test for a long time. But he has been stubborn, did not think he needed it, etc. Anyways, tonight he brings it up to me. He does not really know alot about HRT and wont spend time reading about it - he has always relied on MD's to tell him whats best for his body and he went with it. Now he is interested, mainly just for a better quality of life. Heck, my mom even said she would stick him. He does not train, at least not in a manner that I would call training, but he does do a light workout a couple nights a week. I am sure his test is low, unless he is a freak and unlike all other 60+ yr old men. (And if he is, I am going to be really upset for him not passing that on to me )

What can I tell him to help him get it from his Dr., he won't take it from me.

I would have him go in and just get his testosterone level checked, if he is low or below the parameters they have then he will qualify for test.
I have seen different standards even in the same city so, you may have to get the test twice if he is too high for one.

BigJimCalhoun had a goodly handful of links and posts pertaining to initial interest in test supplementation. I hope he still has them to post back up when he returns.

Meanwhile, getting his levels checked might be a good idea. The danger is that he simply comes in low rather than sub-range and then goes off the idea again due to the doc telling him he's normal. You'd then need to convince him that there's a world of difference between normal and acceptable; that normal for a 60-year old is really a bit cruddy when you get there.

My D.O. believes most, if not all, men over 50 would benefit from HRT.

Barring a pre-existing condition, such as cancer, of course.

I think all he has to do is go in and ask for it. Doctor's prescribe test gels pretty readily to men his age after checking his PSA and test levels.

That's good to know, he is going to try and go in next week. I told him not to settle for the gel, not even sure if they would try and offer that at his age, but who knows. He has always been too trusting of MD's to his detriment, so I am a bit apprehensive here.

You can not change a persons mind,

how ever if you were to inject him with 500mg Sust 250, he would notice a change in his personality, mood and well being with in a couple of days.

Then you could explain to him the physical benefits of lower body fat, increased muscle etc…….

I am recommending you simply convince him to try it, and give him a good dose of Sust or Prop, tell him C and E are painless which is true.

Toughf battle and no one in the medical community to help support you.

Think about all these old fart on hrt, are going to be going to the Doctors office a whole lost less in the next 20 years, What GP wants that.

Okay on second thought get him drunker than shit and when he passes out go with SS's idea of 500mg of susty.
Then in a week when he is thinking how much better he feels lately let him in on your secret!

Sust could hurt and put him off the whole idea.

Yeah, thats true, hitting him with some homebrew prop is probably not a good idea either. But some c or e would be good. Don't know if he would go for that.

He is going in next week now so we will see.

My dad started a few years ago at 58. It has been a life changing experience for him. He is on 1ml of cyp 200mg 1x a week. I mentioned this in another thread a while ago but even the physical changes on that low dose have been dramatic.
