over the past 2-3 months i've developed some SERIOUS pain in my left foot.

started off with my toes going numb when in sneakers (random i know) then went to a dulling pain on the bottom opposite of side of my arch...that accompanied my last 3 toes going numb....then it all turned into inability to put any weight on it and sharp pain. :(

it comes and goes tho. when i stay off, ice, elevate, and wrap it for a few days....it goes away for a week or two.

what the crap have i done?

There was no trauma that caused it?

Since you can't figure out what caused the pain maybe you have the same problem I did.

I had pains, both dull and occasionally sharp, that seemed to travel to different parts of my foot at various times and even between right and left, sometimes both feet at once.

I couldn't figure it out either. I thought it might be my shoes and tried 3-4 different pairs with only temporary success. Then I found out that as you get older, your feet grow bigger. As you stand on them throughout the day.they fill with blood and get larger still. I tried a pair 1/2 size longer and a size wider. I couldn't believe the results. I've moved back out of the slow lane and don't feel incapacitated at the end of the day.

Of course this doesn't take the place of sound medical advice but it may do the trick.

You might also try some custom foot beds, or head to a running shoe shop (I know they have them in Atl) and have your shoes pro fit. It will end all pain... I think. :p

Numbness means you probably have nerve impingement. It may have nothing to do with your foot at all, but be from your back instead.

I would suggest you try icing your lower back (lumbar area) after every workout for awhile. That may be enough to knock out the inflammation and get rid of the numbness. If that is not effective then you may want to see a doctor. Usually the first thing they suggest though is ice and ibuprophen.

Can't hurt and might help! http://www.afboard.com/forum/images/icons/icon7.gif

What the others have said. In regards to the nerve issue, you may have some muscle tightness and/or weakness that is causing impinging. Some stretching and foam rolling may do you some good.

Take what Saladfork siad also. Go to a running shop and get evaluated. Not only will they fit you in the proper shoe, they can also assess your gait and see if anything is going on, which can help you address the muscle tightness/weakness issue also.

I am like Kano, sometime my feet go kind of numb on cardio, it seems the Precor more than anything else.

I know itsallgenetics was joking, but serioulsy, have you been wearing more high heels lately?

I'm not a doctor but recently expereinced the same thing. In doing some research about it I found that this could be due to tightening muscles in the calf or more. Have you tried stretching at all? The pain will last a few days and can be quite uncomfortable. But, if you stretch and keep it from tightening up...even though it doesn't feel tight...this may help.

Ultimately, if you are still experiencing this...please do see a doctor. It's not uncommon to have a pinched nerve.

Take care of yourself Ms Hh. We all like to see you staying healthy and achieving your goals.

I'd see a chiro about it, most normal docs will just prescribe some pain killers and tell you to take it easy.
