I'm at an office here in Midtown Manhattan, and obviously I'm in a very, VERY conservative company (looking at the people and how they dress, act, and talk). Put it this way: I'm lucky just to be able to get to this site and post during the workday.

This place has a nasty-ass proxy server that blocks just about every interesting site there is, including things like Hotmail, AOL, anything relating to chat, email, alternative news, etc. The work here is usually quite slow, and I'd like to be able to do things on the 'net to pass the time...

Does anyone know of a relatively easy way around the proxy to access these sites? If so, mind explaining them to relative Web dimwit?

Anonymizer just masks your **, he needs to get around restirctions that have been set up.

Best thing to do is fight fire with fire.
Set up a proxy server on another off site machine to route traffic through...

If I get to any of the machines that I have back doors to tommorrow, I'll see if I can set up a proxy server on it. I need one too due to some email restrictions that are cramping my style...

Other than that you could set up your home machine as a proxy server and use it...

If you can get to these sites then you should be able to surf almost any non-secure site.

Your proxy will allow you to go there and then that site will allow you to do what you want.

http://www.anonymisierungsdienst.de/mod/init/
http://anonymouse.ws/anonwww.html

So my suggestions will work for browsing but you can't do shit on different ports, so if you want to FTP, use MSN Messenger, File-Sharing or send mail via SMTP then you will need to go the more complicated route that Monster explained.

By the way Monster, my job is to catch bad people like you who take advantage of poor old compromised Windows boxes who don't know how to run Windows Updates, use Anti-Virus software or setup a Firewall http://anabolicfitness.infopop.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Beware big fellow of the Honey Proxys and the Honey Nets.. http://www.anabolicfitness.net/smileys/banana.gif http://www.anabolicfitness.net/smileys/banana.gif http://www.anabolicfitness.net/smileys/banana.gif

Sadly, all the firewalls and A/V software in the world cant stop them from doing the two things that screw them all in the end.
#1. Open mail attachments
#2. Downloading music

Depending on how they block your access, you could try changing the name of the site into something else.

If you're using IE (but not v 6), or most other browsers, you can make use of these pages:

http://www.pc-help.org/obscure.htm (this explains how to change the URL)

http://www.allredroster.com/iptodec.htm (this helps you change the ** addy to decimal)

the other suggestions people gave are probably easier though.

The LAN settings currently are:

"Address -- http://webproxy.lazard.com"
No proxy server is selected...

Below is the text from the web proxy here at the office: (if this helps anyone... looks like gibberish to me)
