Thanks everyone. It was a fun contest, wish that I had hit some PR's because I was right there in the mix up until the end of the second day. Still came away with top 3 which is good.

I did not get any video but will have pictures posted once they are online.

Thanks Kook and GFH.

Some clarification on scoring:
I was also down a placing in the 231's but my overall score was higher. Basically the factor here was that since some of the events were a little bit lighter and some very good 200 lbs competitors showed up they ended up being a big factor in the overall. Some of the guys in the 231's would win by small margins but when Schuna or I would place higher in an event some 200's also snuck in and beat the 231's to give us additional points in the overall.

In the end it was a very close battle with a tie in points between Tom K and John S going into the last event - with John edging him by about 1 second in a carry/push medley!

Attached a couple of photos from the contest, will have the official ones next week.

Good Job Tom!! Your an awesome competitor and a hell of a strongman

But to be honest the Beast was more stacked with Quality than Nationals this year.

What the hell is Willy Wessels thinking having NASS NAtionals in po-dunk Utah? Nobody went

That pro-am coming up in Kentucky is shaping into a real event. You should do that

You need to come back to NJ

I was gunning for that show till around 6:30pm yesterday when I tore something in my forearm. No more comps till the new year. :turd:

Thanks. You're the one who got me in to this sport.

I agree that there were more brute strength competitors at the Beast but most of those guys would not have faired as well in Utah since it was a speed and endurance event. Winning farmers times were in the 8 second range, yoke was 10 seconds, stone reps was 10+, log press 12+, etc. - the guy who won was an NCAA Track and Field record holder (shot thrower) who dieted down from 285 lbs to 240 lbs at 6'4, great athlete.

Utah was beautiful but it was expensive, and I got horribly sunburned. Would have been nice to have had it in the Northeast somewhere.

KY is more traditional heavy strongman events and I am thinking about doing that contest. The competitor list is already stacked and the events are pretty good for me with the exception of the 320 lbs farmers, hopefully I don't end up looking like a clumsy butcher like I did in jersey with my hands shredded.

I wish that I could still train in NJ - there are never any contests down here. Will probably come up for The Jersey conetst in November or for Paxton in December.

How is the driveway crew?

Meat - what happened to your forearm? Seems like a lot of guys have had similar injuries lately. (Oh and I hung out with your training partner in Utah - that guy is hilarious... telling stories about getting hit by cars and whatnot).

I hurt the forearm 2 weeks ago, while flipping my 1000lb tire for reps. My arm was slightly bent at the elbow and I just pulled too hard. Heard one pop and stopped. Forward to last Sunday, we were finishing up with stones. I tackied up and went to warm up with my lightest stone (230lb). Broke the ground just fine and the a few inches from my lap I felt/heard the loudest SNAP, CRACKLE, POP of my lifting career. No pain though which leads me to believe it was some tendons. It felt a lot more prominent then when I tore my hammie pulling 685. The arm is fully functional, but hurts while curling the arm with the hand in certain positions. I’ve been having forearm issues for almost exactly one year, and sunk a ton of money into A.R.T. appointments which seemed to help till now. I’m currently lost at how to rehab this so it never happens again.

IMHO the KY comp is relatively light. No comments on the log press, but 700lb yoke? This is going to be a drag race… People are gonna run with this thing… sub 15sec. 320 framers in a straight line… very do-able. Tire/chain medley, just like the beast minus the framers… Still hard but a lot more doable. Stones: a lot of people will hit all 5.

Chris D is good shit! Really good guy to be around.

Sorrry to hear about your forearm Meat... sounds like something that you will come back from quickly but still frustrating.

KY is not super heavy other than the farmers being a little tough. 700 yoke will be a foot race and the medley is very do-able. Stones to 380 lbs to 52" is tough but not unheard of for a top level LW competitor, similar to the pro contest for St. Patrick's day in SC.

There was just an article on the guy who won Canada 105Kg nationals on EFS - I think you have a shot at the title once you are healthy.
