I have decided to start another log. Besides the recurring neck injuries, I've had some pretty knock-me-on-my-butt family problems going on and after not eating because of emotions, then eating crappy because of emotions, I have made up my mind that I have got to take care of me so I can take care of the other important people in my life. Briefly what happened is that I found out that my 24 y/o son has been abusing oxycontin and there is not a thing I can do about it. After a couple of attempts at intervention and too many sleepless nights, my training has suffered (practically non-existent) and my relationship with my good guy has suffered. I am weighing around 110 lbs. now and it is not good.
I think a good part of my log will consist of journaling my emotional state and hopefully keeping myself out of the black hole I have been in. So, if I seem to ramble on, please forgive me, for it is something I need to do.
I am still mulling around about what my specific goals should be, so for the meantime they will be: 1) Eat, 2) Eat healthy, 3) Train 3/week. I've already got a start on the training as of last week.

I will start logging foods within the next couple of days; I still need to get my eating plan in order. It's difficult when you just don't feel like eating and for a while I got sick every time I ate.

Like they say, take control of the things you have control over so that you can expend energy influencing the things you can, and not spinning your wheels & burning yourself on things you just can't control. And then you're in a place to deal w/ those things in a much better way, at the very least for yourself.
And its a huge thing to have a place to offload your stress through physical workout & the activity of writing it down just to get it out.
We're here & glad you're here!
TIE...let your time in the gym be your peace and a place where you can let go of the outside world, even if it is for an hour or two. Congrats on choosing to take care of yourself...you are the only self you got!

Mood: On even keel
Thoughts: I feel almost relieved to find more people who are going through the same thing I am with their adult children. Is that a bad thing? Nope. It just means I am not alone and I have nothing to be embarrassed about. I have raised my child to adulthood and what he chooses to do with his life now has no bearing on my worth as a Mother. I have to remind myself of that every day. I am not a failure.

TIE-- I'm in on this log. :)
Donnnnnnnnnnnnn't feel like a failure. Your children are going to make choices that go against how you brought them up sometimes. And most grow out of whatever rebellious/bad behaviors they may be exhibiting now. It isn't a reflection on you at all.
++++++++++++++++++++ vibes to you, your family, your health, and your future.
You know I am in and you can email me whenever you need to vent.
You are a strong woman taking on a lot of things right now, but even strong woman need to take a step back, re-evaluate things to keep on being strong. I am so happy that you are working out again and eventually it will become habit again and your strength will be a 1000 times more.
Everyone in your life, including your son is extremely blessed to have you, I am thinking about you and your son daily and I am not even 1% in the situation you are in so I can't even begin to imagine what you are going through... with that being said taking time for you is the best thing you can do for everyone, your strength will some how someway will be passed to your son and everyone in your life.

You are not alone. And you are absolutely right, we who have children that are struggling are not failures.
In my hardest days the gym has been a great place to spend a moment b/w sets to reflect on what is not working, lift something, what is working, lift something, what I can change, lift something, what I need to forgive and let go of, lift something, you see the pattern. That was in my hardest days TIE. No one visited with me at the gym those days as I literally used it to gather myself back up.
I would go home with much more peace and visit with Geni about my thoughts and hers and let the day go with frustrations about how the disease was taking our daughter from us on the table in plain view, lessons learned, people forgiven, physical exhaustion in place...it made for much more peaceful sleep.
Peace and blessings.

Mood: Bit depressed because the weather is getting cooler & I'm not ready for summer to be over.
Thoughts: One of the hardest things I have ever had to do is let go of control of something/someone that I really never had any control over to begin with. Does that make sense? Today it does. I am getting better each day. I managed to train today but the neck is acting up again. Got news that MIL's cancer has spread to her liver. The rest of this year is sure to be an emotional roller coaster, so I have more incentive to get back to a healthy state.
M1: 2 scoops VPX Zero chocolate protein + H2O + coffee
M2: 2 oz dry roasted peanuts
M3: 1 scoop VPX choc. protein + 1 Scoop GNC vanilla + H2O

Yes...end of the day..there is very little in life we really have control over..it's just the illusion that we have some control that keeps us sane !!

The MIL has been doing chemo since May for a recurrence of cancer (her 4th bout in 10 yrs). We've been hoping and praying that it would at least be kept from spreading. However, being realistic, I know that since it is in her lymphatic system, barring a miracle, she will not be around much longer. I know I will need to be strong for my good guy and that is what my focus has to be on now. I'm sure these things are happening for a very good reason and I will learn valuable life lessons.

Congrats on getting your meals in --- small victories are what win the war! And so sorry about your MIL - I think you are right.. ooth for you & your family - anticipating the whole range of all the unknowns and probably experiencing insights and things (both pluses & minuses) that you never even thought you would. Its those little moments of private time and something that gives some control, consistency and structure to your life that is all yours - that is what the gym has always been to me - its always been there and it always will be there whenever I need it.
I also agree w/ you on the "end of summer". Where I grew up in N. Minnesota, "summer" was a precious 2 weeks some time between May & November. The rest was just either "damn cold" or "freezing drizzle". When I moved to FL, I think every day I woke up & saw the sun blasting thru the window & feeling the heat, I was in heaven. I live in a very mild climate right now near San Fran, but we're still looking at the beginning of long stretch of 55- 65 degrees. There's just nothing like when the sun just kisses you....! But at the same time, September always gave me a sense of "Ok back to business", but also bringing in the holiday run thru the end of the year.
All that aside, still focus on each day as another new opportunity, new experiences and new victories!

Your plate looks to be overflowing with the tougher things of life. You know we are all with you. Keep taking the small steps that you can.
The fact that you are listening to your body, knowing what is going on and trying is awesome!!!!!
My thoughts and prayers are with you, and your family.
just a suggestion... but I know during our winter months here it can get quite depressing, but I find going to an indoor swimming pool refreshing. The sun light coming in and it being warm does something.

Great idea CK! Although not nearly as enjoyable as the pool, sneaking in a few minutes in a tanning bed feels pretty darned good too!

Mood: Over the last 5-6 days it has been up and down. See my notes for explanation.
Notes: My son has called a few times and only once did the phone call end well. He has supposedly detoxed using Subuxone. He has lost his apartment, his car got towed and he has lost his job due to the drug use. Yet, now he doesn't think the drugs have any bearing on his situation. He is staying with friends and wont consider rehab, which I have offered to finance. Last conversation I had with him, I think I finally had enough BS and let him know that while I love him dearly, I will not be subjected to the verbal and emotional abuse any longer. When he owns up to his own destructive behavior and can be respectful then he and I can talk again. I have finally taken that first little step by setting boundaries. And sticking with them. I have a long way to go to heal but at least I have made some headway.
Food for the last few days has not been much, so I won't even list it.
Today's eating has been better.:)
M1: 2 scoops VPX zero carb chocolate protein, H2O, coffee
M2: 2 oz dry roasted peanuts
M3: 3/4 cup Kashi go-lean cereal (was in my desk at the office)
M4: 3 slices homemade wheat crust pizza with baby spinach/mushrooms/garlic, H2O
I go back to my dr. on Monday for annual bloodwork results and maybe to get something to help me sleep and/or something for anxiety. I would have never imagined asking for anything but I've had some folks close to me mention that I may need help temporarily.
I need to catch up with everyone else's logs, so I will get to it tonite and tomorrow.

Good work on all fronts- workout, family and food.
You had enough BS a long time ago TIE. You are now standing up for yourself. Major headway in my book :)
Are you just simply forgetting what time it is and missing meals, not hungry due to anxiety, or something else? Would RTD's help to get some extra calories?

Thanks for the encouragement, BSG!
Not only have I not had an appetite due to the emotional crap, when I do eat, my stomach cramps badly. I've had ulcers in the past (like 20 years ago) and this feels very similar. And I know the acidic foods don't help--pizza--but at least I am getting something in me. I do make protein shakes to take with me during the day but most days it is difficult even getting those down. I have hope though. This will pass. And things will get better.

Hey girl-- Great job on the workout but even better job on reaching a personal epiphany about your relationship with your son. That's tough stuff. It's very difficult to emotionally detach for just long enough to take a step back and REALLY see what's going on. So :hi5: to you for that.
I'm extremely easy to manipulate through guilt trips. Control via guilt trips was the way my mom reeled my sister and I in. I became very aware of her tactics when I was about 21 or 22 and I distinctly remember making her cry when I called her out on it. I don't remember what it was over and I looked at her and said "You realize I'm an adult and that you can't control me with this guilt trip crap anymore, right?" And she cried and was like "It's the only way I know how to make sure you're going to do the right thing!"
*SIGH*
Anyways. It's not an easy thing to shake off. But once you're aware of it, you can suddenly find it a lot easier to do what you need to do (which isn't always the easiest) and walk right through the guilt trips. It takes time and practice but you'll get it.

I'm glad you got in for the workout. I find they help me a lot, with my mood.
And excellent news with your realization about the guilt. sometimes it's so much easier to instill guilt than actually talk to someone about issues. A couple of times I caught myself almost going that route with my daughter. I'm glad I didn't.

Notes: I feel better. I've not heard from the kiddo but its okay. I slept through the night and I'm sure that helps. I have a young woman here that I mentor and she reminded me that I had a tremendous impact on her life and she was positive she would have been on the wrong road without my guidance. It made me feel needed and worthy. I took my Kissa to the vet today. She developed a strong(er) odor to her urine and is just not herself. Have to wait until tomorrow a.m. to get bloodwork /urinalysis results. She also hurt her hind leg jumping down from the top of the sofa. Just a little muscle strain but still. She's my love and I don't like to see her hurt.

MIL is doing okay considering the condition she is in. She has asked me to be her medical surrogate, so as to help her husband make decisions for her when the need arises. She trusts my knowledge and capabilities in these sort of situations. She has also asked that I consider her wish that I marry her son (we are not married but in long term committed relationship). I may arrange to have a ceremony for appearances only. She has also asked me to go through her belongings and let her know what I would like to have. It makes me somewhat uncomfortable but I do understand her reasoning for this.
I have been eating, although not the best of foods esp. the past 5-6 days. And my body is telling me how bad I f'd up by eating swiss cake rolls for breakfast, Wendy's for lunch and pepperoni pizza for dinner. All in 1 day.:green: I will get back to a healthy eating lifestyle by Wednesday. And with copious amounts of H2O, I should be able to flush out the old body of the junk that I've subjected it to.
Emotionally, I am doing okay. I am still sticking to my boundaries where my son is concerned. He knows this and has not called again. He'll be okay, he has just got to grow up.
That's all for now. I thank you all for your support and encouragement. You have helped me in more ways than I can count.:rose:
Oh yeah, Kissa is doing great. She had UTI and after 2 weeks of anti-b, she is back to normal.

Glad to hear you're sticking to your guns. I know it's hard with your son, but you are right. He has to grow up.
Re: the food. Don't even stress about it. As you said, most of it is water weight and will flush right now. I don't know how you don't have a liquified GI tract from eating food like that! I'd be hanging out in the bathroom A LOT if I ate like that! lol
Keep it up! :jumpjoy:
Good job on logging all those workouts! You're much more dedicated than me! A lot of times I go "meh" and just say "screw it, too bad that I forgot to write it down". +9000 brownie points for you! :elephant:

oh and first week after comp..I sooooo hear you on the food. I am TRYING to be good..but 11 weeks with no cheats at all and my body is just saying :dinner: my weight has gone up about (she pauses to think in lbs :naughty:) 10lb :ahh: so when I go shopping next week..GOOD food only...feel like crap eating..well crap
and also good job sticking to your guns with your son. I imagine that would be very hard to do..but sometimes you just have to use tough love for their own good :dunno:

Update time again. Training has been sporadic due to neck issues again but I have been able to get something in. I've also decided to do the original circuits that Sgt. Caker designed for me. I got good results the first time, so why not get even better results the second time around?

Mood: Has been pretty upbeat the last couple of days. I can't figure that our for the life of me because it is getting cold here and I cannot stand cold weather (temp below 70 is cold to me)
Notes: Eating is getting better but I still have not gotten around to logging in FitDay. I'm almost afraid to do that because I know it will show I'm still not getting enough. Meh. I'll keep on doing what I'm doing; it's working so far. I've made a conscious effort to eat every 3 or 4 hours and I ain't eating junk since getting back from our trip.
Way to get er done, just catching up and your mother in law has chosen a great person to help her out! I know this is a hard time, but for me when I helped my papa and the family it made things a little easier. :flowers:

Notes: I spent the w/end recovering from a hangover. I forgot to take Sesapure Friday night and got reminded what excessive alcohol does to a light weight like me. So, didn't get my last set of circuits in like I planned on. I am so ready for this f'n election to be done. My snailmail box was crammed full of political propaganda. So irritating!
*Little bad news is that MIL's cancer has spread even more; growth in lungs has increased, another lesion on her liver and possibility of lesions in her kidneys. So very sad and my good guy is really starting to realize the implications. That makes it all the more sad. I really hope I have the strength to provide the emotional support he's going to need.

Yeah know I rarely ever know what to say...Other then nice job, great day at the gym...Congrats on that PR...But for some reason, when were able to relate to someones experiance or trials in life...Word's flow like a never ending stream...
I applaud you as a mother for bringing your son this far and raising him to be a man...And everyone is right. His actions, along with choices the day you let him loose DO NOT reflect you in any shape or form...I applaud you for keeping a level-head in the toughest times and with your current situation....I applaud you for making sure your life stays on track and making sure that you do what needs to be done, to make sure it stays that way....I applaud you for fixing what you can and controlling what you can and not beating yourself up over something that you have no power over...I applaud you for staying strong to a certain level for your mother...
You I Applaud...
God Bless you and your family. Stay Strong and Have Faith in yourself, along with your capabilities. I'll keep you all with in my prayers...

Off today. Slept in with my good guy.
Mood: Much better today. In fact I'm giddy. Explanation below.
Notes: I needed to get myself out of my funk. I had appointment for hair trim today. I've had the same style for at least 4 years now. I stepped out of my comfort zone and got it chopped. My stylist took before and after pics, which I will post when she emails to me. Understand, it took me 7 years to get my hair healthy and long again after a former stylist fried it. I loved my hair long. So, other than maybe layers around my face, I don't cut it. Today we chopped 3" off. I needed this change. I needed to take the plunge. And I did it. How do I feel? Like I look; 10 years younger! I feel sassy, chic, stylish, flirty. Who would have thought that a new hair style could dramatically change how I feel. :D

Notes: I finally was able to get pinched for BF%. I had the guy do it 3 times just to be sure. I am at 17.4% at 117 lbs. I guess that's pretty good. It also explains why I've been more vascular lately.
I ran into a former training partner today. She wants to get back into training with me, wanted to know all about the gym I go to, when I go, etc. While I used to enjoy having a partner, I've grown accustomed to training alone. I don't want her as a training partner again. It ends up me spotting her and showing her correct form, sort of like a PT. How can I tactfully tell her I like working out alone now?

During all this time, I have been following the Anafit Diet. I've been able to stabilize my weight, even with all of the holiday food floating around (and what I've been making & tasting). Energy levels are consistent throughout the day and I have not been hungry.
I started a second job, so my time is going to be limited for the next few weeks. I also have to channel my energy to this new job so that it will become permanent. So I may not train as often as I would like. I'll get back to it in ~4 weeks.

Cervical=neck
Migraines in the cervix=PMS:lol:
My headaches generally start in the neck, due to the trauma over the last few years (bulging discs, surgery, lots of hardware).

\Update
Well, situation with mother-in-law has ended. She has passed away and all services have been completed. Fatherin-law will be here in ~3 weeks to inter her ashes in military cemetary, then off to travel for a few months. So time for me to start another leg of my journey. I've not eaten well over the last 4-5 months and it showed. Lots of emotional eating. Now that the emotional rollercoaster is stopped for now, I am going to begin my journey again. Next destination stop is July 5, my B-day. I want to look stage ready, not actually do it, just look like I could. I've also been able to work a little bit (cash), draw some UE and have gone back to work for the golf course company part-time, hopefully full-time soon.
