I hate golf, but that's a story for another day. The last time I played with any sincerity was 8+ years ago and I ended-up getting arrested. That too is a story for another day. I would much rather spend my time "under the iron as opposed to swingin' an iron."
I'm interested in the PGA this year though and will definately be watching. Granted, I am "regionally biased" and that is generating a lot of my desire to watch but mostly it's all the friggin' whinin' the pros are tossing out there about Whistling Straits. My un-heard, meaningless comment to them is "shut the f*** up and go play!" This course is an ass-beater no doubt (so is one of the sister courses, Black Wolf Run) but so what. I have no problem seeing "over par golf" on a course this demanding.
Anyone else plan on paying attention?

I think the American Shuttlecock Society has some real contenders for the new badminten season. It looks like it could heat up into some classic rivalries!!!

Well the thing you, the media and other non golf types don't understand is tricking a golf course only appeases the USGA, the course superintendent and everyone watching at home that can't break 90 on their best day. It's not the course per say they are "whining" about it's the set-up, it's the lengthening of holes while then narrowing the fairway, they'll extend a hole to 500 yards but force you to hit a 2 iron off the tee because the fairway is as wide as your back yard. They dry the greens out to the point where balls hit pin high can't hold the green and where a 15 foot put must be hit with the pace of a 5 foot putt. Did you watch the US open and see how dry and dead the grass on the course was, by sunday it was brown and hard as cement and not one person in the entire field was able to break par. I guess you'd have to be a golfer to understand, but imagine that just for the world series they extended the fences 75 feet, but placed the pitching mound 20 feet closer, and they didn't water the infield. The best teams are playing, so lets see them struggle a little. It's also frustrating watching a tournament when the leaders are forced to try and hang on to win and anyone around them is doing the same, because there's no realistic chance to make a few birdies down the stretch. Thankfully Augusta National doesn't have to adhere to USGA or PGA set-ups, watching Mickelson shoot a 31 on the back 9 to win the masters is what golf is all about. For a golf fan that's like watching Jordan dump in 20 4th quarter points to win the championship, the set up of these course takes that away, it's a shame really. Now I'll just wait for our members to dog golf http://anabolicfitness.infopop.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif ...if they only knew what they were missing

I don't play golf, I just watch it every day because I live on a golf course.
I don't watch much on TV but when I do I agree with J. What's so bad about watching a guy shoot a 63 and then lose to someone dropping 61 on them? Which BTW is exactly what happened here in Orlando a few months back with Els and Woods playing the course in their back yard. (They're neighbors)
Why can't they just make the course more difficult with angles instead of bad greens on 15 deg grades at their levelest point and bowling alley fairways.

I would never play golf. I'm going to be too busy training for a show to have such ridiculous hobbies. I'd rather be sleeping!

Bah... Im not impressed.
You try puting up with the pressure of having just invaded your opponents court, theyre setting 10-all, your about to start your service and the opposition calls for a test of the shuttlecock!
The next thing you know its 20-all, a five minute interval has been claimed and the whole game is on the line...

Strike a nerve there J? heh heh
Monster, the American Shuttlecock Society, eh? More commonly referred to as ASS? I can see the ad pop-ups on ESPN.com now; "We need more members in the ASS!"
Back to the PGA:
Round 2
1 Briny Baird -8 13
2 Darren Clarke -7 01:05 PM
3 Stephen Ames -6 10
3 Phil Mickelson -6 9
3 Ernie Els -6 01:05 PM
Last update: 12:09 PM EDT
Looks like pretty low scoring to me, we'll see what the weekend setup(s) bring.

God, I hate this talk about g*lf! I've come to expect it from J because I know he's a foolish youth not old enough to appreciate the political gravity of his choice of hobby, but YOU, 1911?
I'm really disappointed in you, man. I thought you were better than that .....

i used to be a 4 handicap j,i used to have time to golf....and workout. I havnet picked up a club in 2 years, my old man always wants me to play with him. Aside from spending time with him, which i always come up with an excuse for, (golf is his life and i dont feel like telling him it sucks) i dont care if i ever play again. Yeah the majors are exciting when they are close in the last 9 holes but thats about it. I dont miss it all, well maybe eating bullshit and drinking beer, but i dont do that anymore either.
