Just more food for thought for the OT board.

I mentioned something about reality t.v. in my Fitness Hater's post. I said that it is causing people to judge other people more openly and harshly. Most all of these shows now have a little round table discussion where they diss on the competitors in order to decide who stays and gos. And they get to listen to and watch the whole thing...or at least later televised to millions they do.

The more of these reality t.v. shows I watch, which isn't a whole truth considering how I hate them, or better yet skip by...the more I seem to get disgusted about the plots. And the more it makes me think about what these shows are trying to promote. Granted it's entertainment they are promoting...but at what expense.

Could be none. I don't feel like movies make people turn into super heros, and I don't think video games make students shoot up schools. But I feel that is because it isn't real...and parents should be explaining to their children that it isn't real..or just not let them watch it.

But reality t.v. is real...kinda. Or it is to the naive of this world who believe that outback jack actually came up with that mumbo jumbo bullshit on his own. So now we have parents telling their kids, "yes honey, this is real". And most parents I know let their kids watch this crap because the foul language is bleeped out, their is basically no violence, guns or explosions. Just telling people they are not cute enough to make the cut.

And it's everywhere and it's what kids are being taught is reality...and adults are being lined up as well to believe that the bullshit that is floating their way is reality.

So does anyone else here feel the way I do about these shows? What are your feelings? Pro's....con's? Anything at all?

I think reality shows have ruined tv.

At first they were kind of fun. Now they are just polluting the schedule with crap and scumbags.

I worry about it because kids do get to see things like Extreme Makeover and shit like that. A local doctor was on the radio here and he said that he has 15-18 year old girls calling want to get everything done to try and look like someone else.

TV is moving away from good creative writing with stuff that includes culture, literature, history and other positive things of drama of the past. I dont even watch TV anymore unless it is Sopranos, Discovery Ch., History Ch. or sports. Anyone remember Northern Exposure and shows like that that were just chock full of stuff like I mentioned above? That type of show couldnt even get one pilot show now. We need shows that switch parents and stupid shit like that to get on the air http://anabolicfitness.infopop.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif
