Come down to Florida to celebrate with the Stanley Cup winners when the season's over, after Game 5?

Keep fantasizing... LMAO, this puts me in a pickle Ulter... There's always been a HUGE rivalry between Calgary and Edmonton (same province, three hours apart by highway). I'm an Oilers fan but... well... anyway... So now I find myself in the position of HAVING to cheer for a team that I'm supposed to hate.

But DAMN, they really won me over this year!

Hey Ulter, do you guys actually even HAVE ice over there? http://anabolicfitness.infopop.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif http://anabolicfitness.infopop.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

Yes of course we have ice. How would they keep the champaigne cold for Super Bowls, World Series, and Stanley Cup celebrations.

The Bucs, Marlins and soon Lightning say otherwise.
I actually went to Chicago Stadium for 15 years and watched the Black Hawks so I have no idea what a Stanley Cup looks like.

Frozen oranges?? Hmmm

Man, it's been so long here since we've seen a cup... LMAO, and my city calls itself "City of Champions"... Perhaps... back in the Gretzky days (yes, that was before he went to LA).

Apples work too... the term is "road apples". Incidentally, that was an album name for a Canuckian band called the "Tragically Hip".

Anyways, looking forward to a good series... and yes, I'd love to come that way if they win http://anabolicfitness.infopop.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I'm a longtime Edmonton boy although my permanent home is Kelowna now (much better too http://anabolicfitness.infopop.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif) . I'm in Edmonton right now and have been enjoying the Flames run even though I'm an Oilers fan at heart. I actually grew to like the Flames over the course of the season and Iggy is by far my favorite guy to watch. On a side not Kelowna is quickly becoming "the" summer home place for the NHL guys, I met Jerome Iginla last summer when he was here, and he has since bought a home, a driving range and signed up at my world gym. Ulter when I play golf with Iggy this summer I'll think of you and this post http://www.anabolicfitness.net/smileys/tounge[1].gif

I live in Tampa but I have a deep hatred for its teams.

Being a Philly fan I actually hate most other teams but I just cant stand Tampa. The problem is Tampa fans are just gay, they are such fair weather fans (no pun intended). They usually know nothing about the sport that they root for and about sports in general. Its torture living here. Except for the weather in the winter that is.

Since they beat my Philly team I will be hoping that the Flames win. Seeing Tampa celebrate a championship again will make me sick.

This is exactly how every game will be. And either Calgary will get rewarded for their forecheck and constant pressure like tonight, or they'll get burned by the lightning for letting them dance around their own zone if they beat Kipper which they couldn't do tonight. Gonna be a fun series to watch...too bad only Canada and the city of Tampa care http://anabolicfitness.infopop.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif...maybe there's some nascar on http://www.anabolicfitness.net/smileys/tounge[1].gif

I think ESPN is selling the hockey fans short. This is fun hockey to watch. I think TB beat the Flames in every stat except goals. Small markets or not it's the SC Finals and hockey fans wait all year for this.
They say the same shite about Baseball and Football. Did anyone care that Green Bay has only 120,000 people living there in their last two Super Bowl appearances? NO. Did anyone care when it was Minnesota and St Louis in the WS? NO
Those were great sports events because the athletes are great to watch no matter how big the city they play in is. I think that whole argument is lame.

Ulter...the only stat TB led was shots on goal, which has about the same relevance as field goals "attempted" . Calgary was beating tampa to the puck every time, was more physical and controlled the neutral zone through the first two periods. Same with the penalty kill, Calgary had more shots on net and goals shorthanded then TB had on the powerplay. The Flames almost made the cardinal sin of sitting back and trying to protect the lead, and you can't play that way against a team as talented as TB. TB has a sign up in their locker room both at home and on the road that reads "Safe is Death". Which refers to sitting back on your heels to protect a lead, like so many hockey and football teams do only to watch that lead slip away. I respect TB for their approach to the game and realize that Calgary was two goal posts hit away from going to O.T, but don't think they will work as hard as calgary for 60 minutes throughout this series

quote:
Calgary was two goal posts hit away from going to O.T

You left out that Gelinas' goal deflected off Andreychuck and then Gelinas and went in. Even Sutter said the score doesn't indicate Calgary's poor play in the first period. A period they led 2-0.

I agree that the Flames has TB confused in the neutral zone but I don't think that will happen again.

Sutter was the Captain in Chicago from 82-87 so I really won't root against his team, but the Tampa vs Calgary matchup was too good to pass up on the board. http://anabolicfitness.infopop.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Ulter, you guys probably don't get to see the commercials (or do you?) but this one for Molson Canadian goes:

----
Why don't I drink American beer???

Why don't I drive a Morrocan snowmobile? (shows a guy trying to drive a snowmobile across a white sandy beach)

Why don't I eat a Japanese hotdog? (shows a Japanese cook putting mustard on a dog)

Why don't I wear Italian hip waders? (shows a fashion show where all the women are marching topless, wearing hip waders with the straps just covering their bouncing nipples)

Or... Jamaican... snowshoes? (shows a Jamaican guy wearing snowshoes kicking sand on the girls on the way to the water)

Why don't I drink American beer??? Because... I AM CANADIAN!
----

After a few of these... WTF is a power play? http://anabolicfitness.infopop.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

BTW, as you noted, the Flames seem to have a "thing" for away-games... we shall see :P

PS - truth is I can't even drink anything right now and by the time I can, it'll all be over... maybe I'll bring a few cases for my visit http://anabolicfitness.infopop.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Calgary does not have a good power play, they were 21st out of 30 teams in the regular season, and are converting at an even lower percentage in the playoffs. There isn't anything pretty about the flames game, it's all system and the majority of their goals will come 5 on 5. Tampa on the other had has way too much talent to be allowed so many power play chances. Calgary must be more disciplined if they are going to beat Tampa. As I said in an earlier post Tampa has too much talent to be allowed to dance around the Calgary zone all game. The man difference I saw in game two aside from the intensity that TB brought was their ability to get past the flames blue line, in game one they were constantly stopped and had way to many neutral zone turnovers. This game they moved the puck much better and were able to get to pucks in the corners before the Calgary D cleared them. Watch for a big night from Iggy tonight, he's the last guy in the NHL you want playing with a chip on his shoulder....great hockey though.

BTW check out this site www.flamesgirls.com (http://www.flamesgirls.com)

I don't think that is happening on the streets in TB,lol

I am sorry to interject youralls (CFL accent) conversation, but in regards to beer NOTHING beets German and Austrian beer: Ottakringer a local austrian dark brew, semi sweet in flavor unlike stout, is the nectar from god. Second is Schwechater another local austrian beer....third is any Weizenbier from Germany...than there is huge gap, I mean a crater before Negra Modello a fine Mexican beer, then comes an assortment of other Mexican brews and lastly there is the commercial American and Canadian piss waters. Samual Adams and Heineken being the worst excuse for beer I have ever had in my life. I litteraly almost threw up after a bottle of Heineken, talk about skunk water. Curiously, I found a local brewing company out of St. Pete that makes some fine beer, Hammerhead Red to name one is pretty good. However, MGD, Bush, Samual Adams, Heinken, Budweiser, Michelob, Labette Blue, Pabst and so on are an abomination and should be used to water lawns (may be good for killing pests). Also, the so called german imports like St. Pauli and so on taste a whole of a lot better in Germany, that means they are not exported/imported but brewed here with the lower alcohol standards and taste just like the other piss waters.

I don't agree that all the Sam Adam's beers are the same as Heineken and Budweiser. Their lager is not very good but many of their other beers have blown away the competition in European brewing contests. I was a home brewer so I used to get the magazines and in the early 90's they bested every brewer in the world more than once. But I agree with the rest of what you said. The Mexican's don't count though. They have great beers in Mexico, most of which you won't find here, but that's because the Nazi's fled to Mexico and brought their brewing secrets with them.
That's like the wineries in Napa boosting their wines are as good as the French. Yeah no shite, they smuggled out 600 year old french vines and replanted them in Napa.
I had St Pauli from Germany when I was in Poland, where they also brew good beer, and I didn't find it to be any different than what is in the US other than the alcohol levels.
But that doesn't interest me anymore, now I drink the beer for the beer taste not the alcohol.
Besides, even when I did drink alcohol I much perfered Ales.

I agree the wall was on fire. But I don't think TB beat the Flames as much as the Flames lost it. TB had a short bench, they were beat, Sutter was counting on the last few minutes when TB would have nothing left and he would have the last line change to tie or win it and that penalty killed it for him.
It makes Game 5 more interesting though. http://anabolicfitness.infopop.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Agreed somewhat...do you have satellite by chance that gets CBC from Canada? I switched over to ABC at times tonight to see the perspective of the game you were seeing and felt somehow cheapened. First off, I agree with you on the Canadian beer you mentioned (all lagers)... however, you didn't mention any of the multitude of other beer made by these same breweries. Rhinos, pale/dark/light ales, Rickard's, honey beers and many, many dark beers...

While I'm a HUGE fan of many European beers, Austria and Germany are also the home of Kreigs (sp?)... full-bodied beers with fruit flavors added... BLECH!!!

Besides, everyone knows that Guiness is the "nectar of the gods" :P

On the other hand, it's tough to "dis" a place where the beer-man delivers/replenishes supply much the same as the milk-man http://anabolicfitness.infopop.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
