Hell, that's better than last year. It didn't even get a write up, just the results. No pics, nada!

The only thing PLUSA is good for these days is rankings

Guys, I'm being completely serious. We already know the powerlifting audience is there. And you guys who compete at a good level are expressing a lack of quality from PowerliftingUSA. Well, why don't you look into starting your own publication to not only rival it, but deliver what you feel the powerlifting community is lacking, a great magazine for the lifters by the lifters. I know it would be hard, but what do you honestly think about that? Just an idea. I'd support you if you feel you can make it better.

Ev, that was tried once; Monster Muscle. It was a quality mag with solid pics and was marketed to the more hardcore audience. I don't think the magazine failed. The owners got divorced and it went down.

It would be tough but with enough capital it may work. IDK. SS, RB

Biggest issue with PL magazines is the lack of money. Unfortunately, there just isn't alot of money in powerlifting. The only people making any money in powerlifting are the supplement companies, powerlifting-gear manufaturers and to a limited degree meet promoters(and these guys don't make much). And most important, there's no television. Without t.v. the advertisers know there is going to be limited exposure, with limited exposure they can spend their money elsewhere, bodybuilding and strongman comps. How this affects a magazine? Same thing, nobody wants to pay good money to advertise in a powerlifting magazine, when they can go hit up Weider and end up in 3-5 different publications. If you really pay close attention to PL USA, the only advertising done in it is by the people that are actually involved in the sport. Inzer, Titan, Westside Products, ELite, etc...

I think Powerlifting USA has done well to stay around as long as it has, they manage on low income and a lot of volunteer information from the lifters themselves. Unfortunately, the articles have progressively gotten worse, and alot of times it's just the same old shit reprinted with a different title. I love Louie but god damn if he writes one more fucking article describing the basic parameters of the Westside training regime, I'm gonna puke. They need some fresh blood, how about Rick Hussey and what's going on at Big Iron? What's the latest thing the guys at Metal Milita have come up with?

And last but not least, if you don't have a subscription to PL USA, good luck finding it. I've occasionally been able to find it in a Borders, but thats been about it. I've had subscriptions in the past, but even that's a bit risky. I'd get a month skipped, then they'd send me two of the same month, just crap like that. I know it's got to be run on the cheap, and like I said I think they're doing a good job staying a float. Just don't think it's quite what it used to be.

I think, well I know, the trouble with commercial book stores having PLUSA is revenue. They can buy 3 issues and only sell one so they can't justify having it on the shelves. They can move a lot of Flex or bbing mags. It's exactly as G-Rex says it. It's a cult sport, underground at best, and it just doesn't bring in money. SS, RB
