It seems as if the government may be poised to reinstate the draft next spring. Does anyone know of any resources that educate people about the draft, and what our rights are? I am familiar with conscientious objector (CO) status (where men who object to fighting for religious, moral, or ethical reasons are exempt from combat duty), but I'm not too sure how to obtain it. Anyone know anything about this topic?

There is no legitimate basis for these "plans". Although the US Government would reinstate the draft if necessary, our military capabilities are nowhere near taxed to the point of needing one, unless this war becomes WWIII. Our military is currently capable enough of fighting this war without needing insubordinate, undertrained, undisciplined, draftee-type soldiers. Anyone who remembers their history or has read into it knows that a military draft decreases combat efficiency with those soldiers who don't want to be there in the first place, hence decreasing popular support and creating public dissent.

I am serving on active duty and talks of a "draft" would be buzzing in my ear more than bees would be if i stuck my head in a bee's nest. Efficiency is the US military's trademark; we're the best in the world. Our military is a professional one, and what makes it that way is that we are a volunteer-only organization; ie, we WANT to serve.

So don't worry too much about there being a draft in the near future.

Good luck getting CO status. Every other guy I knew was seeking that status to stay out of Vietnam. I never met a single person who was granted CO status.

I'm not one to encourage draft dodging, but if you have a legitimate medical condition like epilepsy or asthma, they will not take you. Pre-existing medical conditions are your best shot at being cleared from service. Just remember, you're the one who has to live with the decision to shy away. Speaking of civilian status, i'll be out of the military soon, so i may reap the benefits of a civilian life once again too. I agree to an extent, but if we are trying to hold Iraq, have ourselves in Afganastan and begin a foray into Syria we could see ourselves over extended. The idea of having a draft in spring 2005 may not be real, but Im sure the idea of being ABLE to reinstate the draft is one that is being looked at seriously.

Heh heh... go to the Selective Service web site... the CO section has been taken down. I dont know if it was due to traffic or what, but it isnt there now. http://anabolicfitness.infopop.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I'll be interested to see how the rabid "kill em all" crowd will react to having to be the ones doing the killing? Its easy to be a "patriot" from your couch watching the war packaged into bite sized pieces on the television.

I hope they bring back the draft, then maybe more people will give a damn what our cowboy president is doing with its military people.

Chest and Tris again this morning...

Flat Bench 315 x12, restpause, 315 x5, restpause, 315 x3, deep stretch for 30 breaths after last rep

inclined dumbbell flyes 70s x15, rp, 70sx5, rp, 70s x4, deep stretch for 30 breaths after last rep

Tri extension skull crushers (flat bench, barbell) 135 x15, rp, 5, rp, 5, deep stretch for 30 breaths after last rep

3 friggin sets of restpause and i feel MORE TAXED than any workout (conventional) i've had in about 6 months! That deep stretch is PAINFUL, as painful as the actual set itself!

I am motivated! http://anabolicfitness.infopop.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I hope they don't reinstate the draft - not until both my boys aer too old.

My dad was a pilot in WWII, and a POW. He was at some of the tougher POW camps as well as some of the milder ones. he helped dig the escape tunnels depicted in the movie THE GREAT ESCAPE. He killed a German gaurd with his bare hands. This was a defining part of his life and a great deal of the reason I respect the man so. His life may have been downright boring if it was not for these events. But if my son was ever in active combat or captured as a POW, I would never have a peaceful nights sleep until he was home. OF course even in a time of war, most enlisted never see action - but the worry would damn near kill me.

Nice workouts PA. I think you are going natural now, so that is really nice numbers.
