I think they are heel spurs. After playing ball or walking or running, they swell up on both heels. Tonight the left one is the size of a golf ball cut in half. Like a teardrop shape on the back of my heels where the achilles attaches to the heel. A couple of inactive days and they don't hurt as bad, but I'm an active feller. Any ideas before I see a doc?

OUCH

I've had heel spurs but under the heel.

I would go see the doc.

Thanks NB. These heels are slowing me down. Even at my advanced age I was one of the fastest guys on the team. Now I'm worried about turtles.

Hey Wags,

Sorry to hear about that.

Here is a good link I found

Heel Spurs - What Is A Heel Spur? (http://orthopedics.about.com/cs/generalinfo2/a/heelspur.htm)

It sounds you like you have a heel spur and not plantar fasciitis. But like the link says, the treatment is about the same.

Of course, what you do not want to hear, but the first step is inflammation control :taz: Stop what hurts it bad, ice, and some NSAIDs since your problem is chronic.

Go ahead and do that and schedule an apt with a Dr just to make sure and get some x-rays taken.

BTW - how does it feel when you wake up in the AM?

Thanks Killer. I've been taking the NSAIDs for about 4-6 days and they reduce the pain during and after my ballgames. I still can't cut loose and run at top speed, it feels like the achilles tendons are going to rip. But chances are it's heel spurs and that tissue gets rubbed and irritated from my cleats and the exertion, so I'll just deal with it until the end of the season. Pisses me off... it's hard enough keeping up with the youngsters, let alone throw in something to slow me down more. lol. But at least I can still run and bitch at the same time.

My dad had heal spurs. He got them while he was a postman from all the walking. He said the doc called them bone spurs which would mean that actual spurs are bone or calcium grown so i duno if they'd pop up n dissapear as quickly as yrs do. Maybe yrs are something else?

They don't go away. The inflamation subsides when I don't do anything. and the meds are making them not so damn painful, but they ain't goin anywhere. Did your dad have his removed? I can't imagine having to walk a mail route with these mofos.

Im not sure honestly. I do remember him getting cortisone shots into them tho. Which sounds odd because i duno how cortisone would cure a bone spur??
Good luck tho bud, ill ask him when i get a chance - in fact ill text him now for ya. Hang tight.
