If you are going to do a meet such as Bench Press and Deadlift, do you normally lift during the week before the event? If so, do you go heavy or just light workouts? I know it would not be a good idea to bench the day before the event but would it be better just to not bench at all the week prior? I have an event coming up this weekend and it will only be my 2nd one.

Thanks

Two trains of thought... deload monday and tuesday or take the whole week off. never, ever go heavy the week of a meet.

Normally the meet is on a saturday and sometimes I'll take my squat opener the sunday before the meet. Then do nothing but eat and get blaoted for the rest of the week.

I always take 7 days off prior to a meet.

like stated above everyone is different. i tried the 7 day off thing and i went into the meet out of rythem and un motivated from sitting around waiting. mon id do some lite sled draggin forward and backward to get some blood moving. maybe a plate. and tue id do like 25lb db benches/rows....and lots of stretching for low back and hams. and it would keep my mind in a rythem like im just going into my nexy heavy workout on sat. but thats just me

We peak on squat 14 days out, last bench is 12 days out and last pull is 10 days out. I might do some light squatting 7 days out but that is it, nothing more. SS, RB
