It's my favorite weekend of the year! I love NASCAR...I mean NEXTEL.
I'm layin' the smack down and callin' a DEI win!http://anabolicfitness.infopop.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Of course, I'm gonna be hollerin' for "Driver #8" to take that checkered flag.
If Junior doesn't take it, hopefully Waltrip will. The only other person i'd vote for is Rusty Wallace because I think it would be cool to see him win it. It would put a nice finishing touch on his record when he retires in a few years. He deserves it. Also, if he wins it, it will be good for the 'sport.'
Any of you bastards gonna go to the race this weekend?
btw...i'm not a GORDON fan so if none of the 3 above don't win, I hope it isn't him.
I'm sportin' the racing gear all week.

I may head over this weekend just because it's an hour away and it's the place to be. I'm not a big NASCAR fan though. I like F1.

One of these days, i'm gonna have to head out to Florida....
Man...I'd love to go to the Daytona 500.
I'll probably go to both the California Speedway races this year hopefully. Looking forward to the night race. Probably try to attend Sears Point and a long shot with Phoenix.
I have almost every race on tape since 1995...lol.
There's nothing like the sound of a restrictor plate race as they pass bye at 200 mph...well, at least for me, on tv.

There is nothing like standing at the end of the 2nd bank with the cars at 31 degrees and then heading right at you before they straighten out and disappear on the front straight. The sound of that when you're standing there on the fence is something you'll never forget.
Back when I had my delivery company in Chicago we leased 50 of our trucks from Penske so we got great comp seats on the fence, (but we stood), right in that spot.

Well, i'll put it this way...I'm one of the happiest people on this earthhttp://anabolicfitness.infopop.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
And another thing...this made my 2004 year for sports. I don't know if anything will top this for me this year. I mean, my 'skins look like they are gonna fuck up the off-season possibilities they have, the Lakers are "wishy-washy" even though I still believe they are gonna take it all, and the Yankees have a great roster on paper, but it remains to be seen if they will be able to gel together (with or without A-Rod). Besides, the emotional affect this race had on a couple hundred-thousand people is just all-out awesome in itself. I think it would be cool to just hang-out with Junior, bet he'd be a blast.
My prediction in Nascar at the end of the next ten years is this:
Mike Waltrip is an awesome person and teammate, and he will probably be seated with DEI until he decides to retire. Around this time, Tony Stewart's contract will be coming to an end with Gibbs Racing. As good as Junior and Stewart work together on and off the track, I see this as the future route for DEI. The #1 car may or may not even be around who knows with this scenario...Maybe Kerry Earnhardt will come up and run some races with it. $$$$ talks, and DEI has the green to offer Stewart a future when it comes around. Also, Bobby Labonte will be coming to the end of his career, and I don't think Stewart will want the growing pains of working with anybody else in his place as a teammate. Stewart has also mentioned numerous of times that Earnhardt (Sr.) was his favorite driver growing up as a kid. Hmmmmmm.....This is just waiting to happen. At any rate, he isn't a DEI member yet, so until then, he better stay out of Juniors wayhttp://anabolicfitness.infopop.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Man, that was my deep thought for the day.
I love racinghttp://anabolicfitness.infopop.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

well Mr. BMJ, that is quite a scenario, I could see the possibility, but I dont think that it will ever happen. I personally think that Jimmy Johnson and Ryan Newman are going to be hard to beat over the next few years, Earnhardt and Waltrip seem to have their shit together with restrictor plate racing, but need some work with the rest of the tacks, we'll see my point with this weekends race at the Rock. I like Earnhardt Jr but he definately needs to start winning at other tracks to see that championship. Its definately going to be a good season, a lot of young guys that seem to be able to run and win some races, and I also think that Gordon is going to make another run for the title this year.

I agree 100% with Newman and Johnson as probably being the ones to beat this season, especially Newman. I have a feeling that the engineering backgrounds between Newman and his Crew Chief help them click like nobody else in the sport. I can see Newman winning a few championships within his career. If they continue how they ended from last season, nobody will have a chance.
With the new points system, its anybody's game in the last couple of races. It will be different, but interesting. Gonna have to play the "wait and see" game on if I like the set-up.
I don't really ever see Waltrip to win a championship, but rather just a GREAT teammate to have. I think Junior, if he runs like he did last season without all the accidents, blown-engines, blown tires, etc, etc...will be hard to beat. They run great at 'almost' every track, except for when something goes wrong. Then again, just about everybody would do better if they didn't have any bad luck, Ryan Newman especially last year...probably would have won the title if not for the treacherous start. I wouldn't say Jr. was the hottest driver ending the year, but he did have a good car that could have won or finished top 5 in just about every race if the bad luck didn't come around.
I think Kenseth will also be tough. Him and Risor (sp) have a great bond...just like Jr. and the Eury's. One thing to remember is that Kenseth was very dominant last year although he did not finish the season that way. He always found a way to finish top 10. I think he could have won a lot more races, and probably finished stronger at a lot more events toward the end if he wasn't playing it cautious.
My top drivers, in no particular order are like this:
Junior, Kenseth, Johnson, Stewart, Gordon, Harvick, Busch, and Newman.
The final two spots for the top 10 will be determined by:
Bobby Labonte, Rusty Wallace, Waltrip, and maybe Terry Labonte, Elliott Sadler and Dale Jarrett.
Everybody else doesn't have a chance.
Once the top 10 are established for the last couple of races, it's anybody's game. You'd have to vote for those drivers who end each season strong though.
The one thing that is weird in nascar is that there is always a team that comes out of nowhere and does awesome, and dominates. Who this will be, I don't know.
btw...The Junior and Stewart scenario was more of a long-term plan later on, moreso than now. I'm not a big Tony Stewart fan, but he can drive a car. Those who have the open wheel, and early racing backgrounds are the ones dominating nowadays. He has that experience, and he has the ego and confidence to back it up. His crew Chief Zippadelli is simply awesome.
