View Full Version : Shoulder Bullshit

My shoulders never grow, but my biggest issue is the pain I have in them. I've never directly injured my shoulders (the fibro and dislocated ribs play a factor), but they hurt like the dickens. Not only do I have sharp stabs of pain while doing something like an upright row, but when working my shoulders the past two weeks, I've had the following problems in this order:
1. Arm starts to spasm sort of violently, but I push through it.
2. Arm/shoulder starts to tingle and tickle a bit, making it difficult to concentrate. Still spasming.
3. Shoulder goes numb.
4. Arm has a burning sensation like I dipped it in bleach.
I'm looking for any and all suggestions on what to do here. I use a weight appropriate to my lifting capacity...basically, if this weird shit wasn't happening, it'd be just fine. Someone had suggested doing some other "rehab" shoulder exercises instead of just lifting weights, and that sounds like something good to try. Anyone else have a problem like this, or have any suggestions for me?

Well since I'm sort of smart can I be correct in assuming this is what is getting you a medical out of the Corps?
What tests have the docs done for you? Have they looked into nerve impingement in the shoulder area? I hope Pixie sees this and chimes in. I'll check with my guy also. SS, RB

Upright rows can play havoc with the rotator cuff. The exercise is on my avoid list after I hurt my shoulder doing them a few years back.

RB, I saw the post...
Strawberryriddick... I'm not sure I can help, but if you'd like me to try, send me a PM with more information, like the things RB asked, what makes it better, anything else that bothers it particularly daily life things, etc. It does sound like a nerve is playing a part here. It could be a bursa causing some problems, could be general swelling, could be a bone spur... need more info.
I'm sorry I can't do more right now. I only have limited time right now as I have to get some chores done... I hate bills!!

I agre with Blut. Upright rows were invented by shoulder surgeons!

Definitely sounds like an impingement to me. I'd say about 99% chance. Rest and anti inflamation meds will help.

Ditto. I can't do those at all. I'd try cutting them out and see if it helps.

2, 3 and 4 indicate nerve involvement. Get it checked out. The burning sensation can be hell. Mine was a spur at Level C6. I do some rehab exercises with thera-bands that help with strength. I can no longer do upright rows because of nerve damage in my neck/shoulder but am able to do front raises, side lateral raises and some light OH presses.
Hope you get this resolved and get to feeling better!:rose:
