yeah i was one of the spotters, it freaking sucked.

Basically vlad was going for 1300 (pure weight), i dont know where the 700 pure weight 600 lbs of chains came from... but anyway, everyone was maxing out on squats that day for an At Large video. Some big time squats were had, vlad did 1100 then 1200 then loaded the bar with 1300. The thing is when Vlad came back to Westside his form got really bad. Learned forward, wasn't pushing out the knees, etc.. and sure enough his right knee buckled at the bottom and he tore hi ACL pretty bad in his left knee. He actually got lucky and so did myself and all of the other spotters cuz no one was stopping 1300 lbs. The only other person to get dinged was the back spotter cuz the bar hit his ankle real good. However, he should be fine after a few more days..

He should've listened to Louie and started squatting on the box cause it made his form 10x better. Everyone else in the gym box squats, but for some reason Vlad wanted to train progressive overload, which is probably another reason why he got injured.

When I drove his car back to his place he was NOT in good spirits , could barely use his crutches lol. I just hope he listens to Louie for rehab, but I think he'll probably go back to NY to rehab.... sucks, good guy and one of the strongest guys ive ever witnessed in person.

Good to hear that nobody else got seriously hurt.

I met Vlad once in Queens, NY and he seemed like a good guy. He was training mostly by himself or with others who didn't know much. Louie can definatly help him rehab if he listens. If he got his bench up, he might be the first to 3000.

his bench was coming along fine pre injury. He didn't have any training partners back in New York. I'm assuming that's how his form went to shit when he came back to Westside.

the docs are telling him he can't do anything for a year, but Louie is telling him to start pulling the sled whenever he's able to do it and then go from there. Hopefully he listens and gets back it quickly. and hopefully he fixes his form so that shit never happens again!

Just a suggestion, but he needs to listen to BOTH his doctor and Louie. Kind of find that middle ground and definitely pay attention to his body. For instance, before pulling a sled, if possible, he could ride a stationary bike. Helps improve range of motion and keeps blood flowing through the muscles decreasing atrophy (post-surgery of course).

A year of nothing (per the doctor in your post) is a bit excessive. Sounds like the old-school philosophy with ACL repairs. I had my patients walking within days of their repair and doing much more within 3 months. Not saying he should be squatting in 3 months, but a year of nothing sounds a bit long. But, only he knows his body best and can decide how to proceed.

Best of luck to him.

Louie has brought a lot of guys back, including himself from injuries like that and worse. Hopefully the Dr. tells him to start doing stationary bike and what not, but i doubt it. The surgeon still hasn't operated on him yet for whatever reason

That's kind of an ignorant comment, isn't it?

Edit; I see someone else thought so too.

A lot of times they won't operate right away to get the swelling down, and for some but not this case, to improve strength around the knee joint. ACL repairs aren't like some other repairs that have to be done right away.

I wish him luck...

He stopped by the gym the other day and that's what he said, they wanted the kneeswelling to go down.. but he said he was going to listen to Louie for rehab so that's good news
