I got into an arguement with a guy about krav magra. Another guy asked if krav magra was a martial art. I said that it wasnt a Martial art in the way traditional arts are. Its more of a real life self defence combat art. Its as real as it gets and its not structured like the other Arts are. well this other dude said that i was an idiot and didnt know what i was talking about. That pissed me off btw. He went on to say that it was an martial art and that if i knew anything about martial arts then i would know that. By this time i was ready to rip his spine out his ass.....
Any way what do you guys think, Is it an art? Im I an idiot?

nope... I agree with you. Real world self defence. That dude is the idiot
I think it depends on who you ask.. personally, from what I know, I agree with you.. it's not really a "traditional" martial art. Its a form of military style hand to hand combat training for Israeli soldiers. From what I've seen it's more or less, "do whatever it takes to take the enemy out".. I mean, Navy SEAL training isn't a martial art.
But now if you look at true Asian Martial Arts, they pretty much all started as hand to hand combat training for Japanese warriors/samuri's, etc.. So, it's kind of an open question..
I'll ask a girl on my fight team though.. she took Krav Maga for five years while doing an internship in Israel. :)

Cipher mate you were dead right . I would say Krav Maga is a self defense system if i had to put a label on it . No tradition , No fancy movements. Just real world practical technique . Know a guy who teaches Krav Maga here , excellent with weapons defense and attacks ...especially knives.

Main Entry: mar·tial
Pronunciation: Marsh-ial
Function: adjective
Etymology: Middle English, from Latin martialis of Mars, from Mart-, Mars
Date: 14th century
1 : of, relating to, or suited for war or a warrior
2 : relating to an army or to military life
3 : experienced in or inclined to war
The word martial in Martial Arts actually refers to fighting/warrior. So I'd have to say it is a Martial Art, just not a traditional one.
I wouldn't go so far as to call someone an idiot for thinking otherwise.:boxing:

I would say Krav Maga is a self-defense system, a brutal and highly effective one at that. Not a martial art. My 2 cents
