Does anyone on here have any weird injection rituals they follow? I know I do.
I hate quad shots, they almost always burn right at first and are hard as hell to inject into. So one day before I injected I was acting silly and started breathing like those women in lamaz (sp?) classes. I was shocked because it actually really took my mind off of it and made it much easier. So now I always do that during my shots. My girlfriend looks at me like I'm a complete psycho but it works. So does anyone else have any weird injection rituals? I have kind of a new one. When the nurse was electrocuting me during my EMG for my neck she said, make a fist with each hand and squeeze one and then the other and concentrate on it.
So now whenever I am getting a glute shot with a 1 1/2 3cc I do that. I put my hand in front of me and make two fists and alternate squeezing them, sometimes to the beat of a song and I don't hardly notice the shot I am getting. When I do my own I have no such tricks since it take two hands for me to do the shot, because I hold the barrel still with one while using the plunger with the other. |

I like to watch my skin bend until it breaks and swallows the needle. Then I savor the "splinter" feeling of the foreign object beneath my skin.

Oh, actually the one ritual i do still have is rubbing the injection site until it's not bleeding. I wanna make sure none of that precious juice comes wandering out of the injection hole! I've never had to inject myself but in nursing school I was terrified the first time I had to give an injection. I was shaking so hard. Thankfully the client was blind and didn't see me looking like I was going to wet my pants. Now I've given so many injections I have total faith that I'd be excellent at giving them to myself.

I'll completely admit to one time giving a sub-cu and I sort of zoned out and forgot that I had a needle in someone and needed to pull it right back out. I seriously blame that on the fact that 95% of the injections I give are insulin and you keep the needle in for a while. Anyhow, I felt horrible and yanked it back out but I felt bad. I know a sub-c isn't as bad as an AM but I try to do a good job.
Lord knows the injection nurse at the dr's office is 100 times better than your GP's nurse.
