Default Therealj's weekly NFL picks

There is nothing I love more than NFL Football( daughter excluded). So for my fellow football fans this will be my weekly feature with my thoughts and predictions for the weeks games. I must provide a little history on my football gambling, In grade 8 I won the NFL pool 2 times at the largest sports bar in Edmonton, I did the picks for my mom . So my football ego is very large

Arizona at Pittsburgh

At 2-6 I still like the Steelers chances of winning the division, how you say. One they are going to win this week and two Baltimore has St.Louis,Miami and Seattle in the next three weeks, with the only game I can see them winning being the Seattle game. It's a must win Game for Cower and they'll do so 31-13

Chicago at Detroit

Hmmmm, Chicago is 3-5, Detroit is 2-6, the Bears have scored 141 points and the Lions have 140. The Lions have given up 197, while the Bears have give up 199....ah shit give me the bears 19-16 someone has to win right?

Cleveland at Kansas City

In a perfect world KC would lose and this Bronco fan could find something to smile about this bye week, the only thing perfect after this weekend is the 9-0 Chiefs. 38-17

Houston at Cincinnati

Cincy wins, if you'd like my reason read the Steelers prediction again but this time everytime I say Steelers place "Bengals". 24-14

Indianapolis at Jacksonville

7-1 vs 1-7 and no this isn't my upset of the week, I'll get to that later. Indy 38-10

Miami at Tennessee

Miami is perfect on the road this year and needs to win to keep pace with the surging Pats, won't happen this week. McNair is too good to let this important game slip for the Titans. The difference will be turnovers, of which Griese will cause 3, 2 fumbles and 1 int. Titans win a tight one 16-13

Seattle at Washington

I wish Seattle would decide which team they are, the ones that beat the Rams and Niners or the ones who lose in the Desert to the Cards. This game will come down to the simple fact that the skins can't get any pressure on Hasselbeck due to having the worst D-line in football(even though I played football with Jermaine Haley who starts at DT for them, sorry Jermaine) and the Skins don't even know if Spurrier will be around next week. Seattle gets a good road win 27-17

Tampa Bay at Carolina

I can't figure either of these teams out, nor do I have anything witty to say. I'm taking the Bucs because they are 3-1 on the road and a win here places them only 1 back of the Panthers, the same Panthers who are 6-2 despite only scoring a total of 12 more points than the opponents this year. Bucs win 16-10

Minnesota at San Diego

Flutie Flakes anyone, if Doug starts this is my upset of the week, so you get two scores for this game one with Doug and one without. With Flutie Bolts win 31-28, without they lose 35-6, yes 6!!!

Buffalo at Dallas

If Dallas does one thing well it's play tough, hard, agressive D. Which is bad news for the Bills who do about as bad a job as any team in the league at protecting their QB. Bledsoe will get hit and then he'll get hit and then he'll probably get hit some more. Between getting hit all those times he'll fumble and probably throw a few picks. Dallas wins quite easy 27-14

N.Y. Jets at Oakland

Oh the drama, the playoff rematch game from last year. Problems is the Raiders are old, slow and when they aren't beating each other up in practice they are doing so in the media. The Jets missed a huge chance to get back in the race last week, 3-5 with a healthy Pennington would have been reason to hope in the AFC east where they do a great job of beating each other up. That Chance was blown when Edwards sent Brien out to kick a 52 yard field goal, Brien was at one time a great kicker with a great leg, but he hasn't hit a field goal longer than 43 yards since 2000 and hasn't hit one over 50 yards since 99. Granted I just found that out earlier but Herman should have known it prior. Jets win 28-21

Baltimore at St. Louis

I don't know why but I just don't respect the Ravens, I know the D is good and yes they beat my broncos but they just don't have the feel of a playoff team, let alone a division winner. The Rams are another Jekyll and Hyde team who have too much talent to be so up and down. They'll stack the house to stop Jamal Lewis knowing Boller won't beat them and it'll be enough to get a well earned win 28-17

Philadelphia at Green Bay

Great game for MNF, philly has won 3 in a row and will overtake Dallas at some point this season, but it won't start here. Favre and the boys are starting to play well and they know the Vikes are human now. The biggest factor will be Green who is the most underrated player in the league, wait there's my theme for this game " the most overrated vs the most underrated" Pack wins a good one 24-20

Almost forgot hence the edit

Atlanta at N.Y Giants

Worst team in the league will get eaten up by a hot Kerry Collins. G-men 31-10

“Don’t tell me about the pain, just show me the baby”

Bill Parcells 1999

Sean Salisbury is a complete moron ifhe thinks that my 'Skins wil beat the Seahawks. My skins flat out stink!

That d-line is horrible. "The old ball coach" needs to get the hell out. he looks lost and is too stubborn to change his ways. Everything just stinks on this team except Bailey and Arrington. Even our 'all-pro' o-line stinks this years. Damn coach has no fire under his ass too. Just sad

MR. BMJ I do agree with a lot of what you are saying but the real blame for your teams misery falls squarely on Snyder. He has no idea what the hell he is doing and I actually feel bad for Spurrier, and I'm not a Spurrier fan. The only stupid move I can place Spurrier directly responsible for is dumping Stephen Davis. He's stuck playing with Snyder's players and is only 24 games into his NFL career, given the right scenario he would succeed. Bill Parcells said it perfectly after leading New England to the super bowl and then quitting in the off season "If I'm going to be asked to cook the meal, I'd like to be able to pick the groceries,"

At your size it's not going to help you pick something out for yourself by looking at what the women are wearing.

Nice picks J, it's just too bad too see that you are still after Griese when it was his coach holding the team back while he was in Denver. Jake got off to pretty much the same start that Griese did as Shanny's QB, but then he turned back into the real Jake Plummer and broke his foot getting off the couch. Now that the romance has worn off we will all be able to stop hearing the Elway comparisons (which I can't imagine make you happy even though he is your boy). As for your picks I say this:

Pittsburgh vs. Arizona:
Why is everyone so high on Pitt still? Tommy Maddox, flash in the pan. Plaxico Burress, drops too many balls, reminds me of a worm. Heinz Ward, has heart but the announcers make him sound like a god. Bettis, hard for me to say since I love this guy but he's done. Cowher, extremely over rated. But they will win because AZ is still AZ, too bad because I like Jeff Blake.
Pitt 24 AZ 10

Chicago vs. Detroit:
Two of therealj's boys at QB here. Poor fans, not only do the people of Detroit have to watch the Lions but they have to watch them play the Bears yet. Good thing that the A train is making his homecoming.
Chicago 21 Det 17

KC vs Cleveland:
Only drama is if they will kick a ball to Hall. Cleveland usually puts up a good fight but KC will win this one by about 20. I wonder what ever happened to the Playboy girl who dropped Tim Couch for Cade McNown? I heard she left him for Ryan Leaf.
KC 35 Cle 20

Cinci vs Houston:
I like Cinci and I like the grittiness of the Texans. This could be an entertaining game in spite of the teams, both play hard and are well coached. I'm not jumping on the Lewis bandwagon just yet but he looks like he has that team back to being respectable. If I were him I would tell Dillon to shut his mouth or go home. He has nothing to loose and would show the team that he is in controll. Too bad that Spikes bolted or else they would be that much better.
Cinci 18 Texans 15

Indy vs. Jags:
Indy is just way too strong, Leftwich will be a star sooner than later. Nice to see Dungy back on top.
Indy 42 Jags 6

Miami vs. Tenn:
McNair is the stylish pick for MVP which he deserves. He's turned into a bigger better version of Favre. I think that this will be a player who lots of people will think back on when he retires and wish they had paid attention to him. Miami was supposed to dominate this year, and last year, and the year before that. Despite what therealj says, Miami is his team. Grise handing off to Williams, that says it all. Williams is the best back in football and Griese is the QB they need in that system. I personally don't know how anyone can watch that team play or be a fan though.
Tenn 21 Miami 20

Seattle vs. Washington
I used to love the Redskins as a kid. The Hogs, deep balls, Dexter Manly and Charles Mann, coach Gibbs. There was no better place to play than Washington. Snyder has single handedly ruined all that. I'm sure that his heart is in the right place but he should have tried to build a team when he first got there. Pick a coach and let him go for 3-4 years. Football is system oriented and you need to either plug players into your system or adapt your system to what you have. Neither has been done, change has happened so fast that they have players stuck their from systems past and a owner who picks up players seemingly without the input of the coach or GM. I love college football and would have loved to see Spurrier do well but he was set up to fail here. Seattle on the other hand did exactly what Washington should have. Paul Allen got Holmgren and said "build me a team." He sat back and got whatever he wanted and what you have now (although it was somewhat slow) is a solid base for a good team for years to come.
Seattle 30 Washington 14

Tampa vs. Carolina
Carolina is good but their luck and timing is ridiculous. If only Sapp and Key could shut their mouths Tampa would be bearable and possibly better. Looks like the Gruden deal that people were going nuts over was a steal for TB even though this offensive genius won a Super Bowl on D. Worked for Billick. This is the easiest pick since Tampa alternates mins and losses weekly, sorry Carolina finally some bad luck.
TB 21 Carolina 14

Minny at SD:
Doesn't matter who is at QB for SD. Bennett is back and Minny walks.
Vikes 42 SD 10

Buffalo vs Dallas:
How 'bout them Cowboys!!?? Buffalo has the peices but Dallas has Parcells. I can't believe what a difference a coach can make.
Dallas 24 Buff 14

Jets vs Raiders:
My favorite coach vs. my favorite team. If only Herm coached my Raiders. There is no hope for Oakland, this is a team of vets who are there because they thought they would win a Super Bowl and retire. The group of vets that they have other than Romo could care less about the team, not many players kill themselves for the team like he does. One point though is that I don't know how much better the Jets would have been even with Pennington, they have lots of holes. Still though realj, you should have picked up his Mashall jersey on e bay that time.
Jets 17 Oak 6

Balt. vs St. Louis:
Finally I go against therealj. It is a very scientific pick, I love Ray Lewis and hate St. Louis. The Rams suffer from Warner's deal with the devil a couple years back and are swallowed up into the earth *yay!*
Balt 18 Rams 14

Atlanta vs Giants:
The season may be lost, you are still in pain, and you hate your coach. Come back because you are the quarterback, the leader of the team. People look at QB's and buy into their belief that they will lead them to the Super Bowl. He tells you to run head first into a Ray Lewis and you do it. He tells you to catch that ball while Sharper is about to kill you and you do it. These players need their leader, they are out there getting killed and you sit there with your sore leg and bitch while getting the owner to push you around the side lines in a wheel chair looking like a WWII vet with your head band and crutches. I hate losing respect for a player who I made a legendary TD with on Madden 2004 but you need to play.
NYG 31 Atl 6

Green Bay vs. Philly:
Favre vs. McNabb. Too bad the two of them couldn't play against each other 1 on 1. There isn't much else after those two guys in my mind but it will be a fun game to watch.
Philly 24 GB 18

All done people. Enjoy it for what it's worth...the opinion of a genius!!!

So my bestfriend decides to pop his little head into my post and litter it with this drivel . I see this was more a case of just copy all my picks pray to god the Ravens win and then come back and gloat. Good read thanks for that, make sure you do it every week. My favorite part was

Well it was a very tough morning, I mean Falcons over Giants and the Jags over the colts!!

Anyway here is where the J-man stands against the pro's with 2 games left to play

Therealj 7-5
Joe Theismann 7-5
Merril Hoge 6-6
Sean Salisbury 5-7
Mark Schlereth 4-8

I'd also like to point out that in this crazy week I was correct in my upset of the week. The Flutie lead Chargers beat the Vikes, none of the 4 "pros" made that call

Why, why does the NFL mock me??? As much as I follow this league it continues to expose me as being about as accurate as Akili Smith. Next weeks picks will be decided by a monkey throwing darts.

p.s. thanks for the Goonies pic

I agree that it would be harder, but I'm just trying to give a little insight into who I think will win each week, similar to what cnnsi.com and espn.com. My intentions had nothing to do with gambling so that's why I left the spread out, that's all it's there for anyway
