Ill let the boys post up the results and what went down Meat had a strongshowing, picked up momentum late in the show which got him up alot in points very impressive, IG great at start ended tearing calloses off on both hands in med doing farmers (really bad) they both where top three in dead actyally tieing for second with 800. IG hands where destroyed after this event, onto stones meat put up three, IG not one. He put on gloves because his hands where a bloody mess and it pretty much desstroyed his placing couldnt get a grip on the stone. Dont know exact placings but it was an insane show with not one slouch competitor.

Here is my write up... finished 1/2 point behind Meat for 7th place.

Northeast Beast Write-Up

Flew in on Thursday and met up with Dave Beers at the airport, not feeling very prepared but was anxious to get out and compete. Dave needed to make weight so we checked things on Friday and had to hit the sauna for a couple of hours, I ended up coming in just under 225 lbs which is the heaviest I have been - but was feeling pretty good. Friday afternoon had a huge lunch then BBQ with Dave Beers, Dave Mihalov, and my family.

Woke up early on Saturday and headed out to the contest site. Watched the Masters compete and got warmed up, not feeling as intense as I normally do. This is the heaviest contest that I have ever entered by far and marks exactly two years since my first contest.

Keg Medley - 180, 210, 230 lbs to 52" and 250, 270, 290 lbs to 48" (all carried 20 ft.)
Knew the last keg was going to be a struggle for me and decided to just go nuts and fly through the first few as quickly as I could. Literally ran with each keg and realized on the 4th keg that the spotters had placed them backwards, made a quick adjustment and took care of the 250 and 270 lbs no problem. Lapped the 290 and walked a few steps then had a putdown and decided to conserve energy. One of the fastest times to 5 kegs and ended up 5th overall in this event I believe.

The keg medley was one of the hardest events that I have ever done in competition, afterward was on the ground for 5-10 minutes to catch my breath.

Log Press - 12.5" 270 lbs log clean and press each rep
This was my event to make up some points. Cleaned the first rep and the press was easy, hit a quick 3 reps though the clean was tiring me out since I was already spent from the keg medley. Paced myself and hit 3 more reps for a total of 6 which is a big PR! Tom Kaufman hammered out a ridiculous 8 reps on this for the win, I took 2nd place overall.

Death Medley - 300 farmers 50 ft, 850 tire 5 flips, 600 chain drag 50 ft.I knew that the farmers would be the hard part for me since my grip in training held up to exactly the contest weight but nothing more. After seeing a few guys before me fail I was hoping to just have a drop or two then make up time through the rest of the medley. Picked up the farmers and felt pretty good through about 20 feet but realized I was uneven on the handles. Had a putdown then stood right up and stumbled and fell. Picked up again, took two steps and the handles slid out? Looked at my left hand and had two torn calluses and blood in my palm. Tried to pick the farmers again and it slid right out... walked away disappointed. Finished at about 30 feet which put me at the bottom of the pack, dropped me from top 5 to out of contention - but the worst part was that I was really looking forward to the tire!

Courtney Doto provided medical supplies and some of my friends huddled around to help me get ready for the next event. Steady handed Mark cleaned things up for me and Dave Beers did a great job taping my hand for the deadlift. Was frustrated about the farmers walk even though 7-10 other guys had bad callus tears as well. Paul R. from Canada gave me a pep talk before the deadlift and started to get my head back in to things...

Hummer Tire Deadlift - Last man standing, 600 lbs opener and 50 lbs jumps.
Had to enlist the help of Kiel Digeniero, Glen Kafius, Lou Torres, and Mike Gill in order to get into my suit (yeah - maybe I need a bigger size). First pull was 600 just to be safe and went up with ease. Put up my straps and hit 650 lbs no problem, finally finding my groove but realized that my mangled tape hand was starting to slip and bleeding on my straps. Willie gave me some advice on how to strap in and nailed the next lift at 700 lbs without a hitch! At this point about half of the field had dropped out and people were starting to miss on 750 lbs but was finally feeling pretty good. Strapped in tight and gave a strong pull - locked out 750 lbs nice and smooth! Tried 800 lbs and ended up tearing the calluses off my right hand this time, which was another big mess. 750 lbs put me in about a 4 way tie for 3rd on this event.

At this point I am in 7th place going in to the stones but one hand is covered in tape and the other is bleeding. Decided to take off my bandage and just tacky my forearms to protect the cuts.

Atlas Stones - 280 lbs, 330 lbs, 365 lbs, 380 lbs all to 48" and 405 lbs to 42"
Loaded the 280 lbs no problem, 330 lbs went up easily as well but then realized that I had no tacky on the 360 stone... made a few attempts to lap it and couldn't get a good grip, would break from the floor then slide out on me. A lot of competitors loaded the third stone but I believe only 2-3 hit the 4th. In hindsight I should have taped my forearms like I normally do and would have had more stones which could have bumped me up into the 3 way tie for 3rd. Ended up finishing middle/lower part of the pack on this one but it was enough to maintain my 7th place position, 1/2 point behind Paul and about 583 points behind Gill... who was absolutely dominant!

Dave Beers had a good day despite not feeling well and secured 2nd place after tearing through the stone run loading all 5 in under 40 seconds! Mike won 3 events and had a 2nd place and a 3rd place tie in the other two - he was completely on top of his game and definitely deserves the Pro Card.

All in all it was a fun day and a well run contest. All of the competitors encouraged each other and there was some great lifting. I know that I could have done better and definitely should have been much more prepared.

I think that 1/2 point can be quite motivationg. Next time I bet beyond winning he may be gunning to beat me by at least half a rep.

Haha, I feel worse for the guys who had the 3 way tie for 3rd and they went based on weigh-in bodyweight.

My limbs are so short that I don't know if there is such a thing as half reps. :deadlift:
