It's ez being a teacher cause you never work! However, that situation doesn't look too good. That would be a lawsuit back in the suburbs of philadelphia. In the city of philadelphia it would've been another day at the office lol

i work @ a high school. while their job can be challenging like any other job, they only have to work 180 days, get every damn holiday off including half days for hallmark holidays like valentines and st patties day. They also get spring break and a winter break as well as a long summer break. then they go on strike every year and saying their 60-70grand salaries and benefits aren't good enough. In turn, they keep driving up property taxes for everyone. Not a huge fan of them

My ex wife is a teacher. Per the contract her salary is for 7 1/2 hours of work per day. In reality she works a minimum of 10 hours every day. Many days she does not get any breaks at all because there is always too much work. And deals with more bullshit than anyone should ever have to put up with from horrible kids, unfit parents, and stupid administrators. The kids she works with are the ones that are headed straight for a gang and jail a few years later. She does an incredible amount of mentally and emotionally draining work trying to steer those kids onto a better path and she does that for comparatively little money. The very least I would expect is for people to show some appreciation. So when people say how teachers have it easy and need to stop complaining it really pisses me off.

Sure, teaching is a challenge; nothing in this world is easy. I just don't think they should get paid as much as they do for as little as they work then go strike and drive everyone's taxes up. There are two districts near me where teacher's avg salary is 80 grand! Some of the teachers I had back in elementary school who are still teaching are making 90 grand! that's over 2 grand a week! Sorry, but i'm all for cutting taxes and compensating teachers for how many days they work. All the teachers cry about how hard their job is what they don't realize all jobs comes with challenges not just theirs.

You're painting with a very broad brush. Most teachers are paid in the 30's not the 60's, the national average is $47,000 for a 4 year degree and teaching degree. They drive up property taxes? That's weak. That's like saying the military drives up income taxes. How do you propose to get along without either one? Over 50% of the kids teachers are trying to teach have parents that play no roll whatsoever in their children's life or education. Teachers are the best chance those kids have of finding a roll model that can keep them out of the penal system. They are a necessity.
Chicago City Firemen earn a lot more, and deserve it, but they only work 7-8 days per month, and oh BTW drive up your taxes.
ICU nurses can get full pay for 9 days a month.
Flight attendants with full seniority make $60,000 and can get full pay for 9 days a month.
There are lots of jobs where people don't work 222 days a year 9-5.

valid pts. sure they do great things, that's their job though. 47k is a very fair compensation for a teacher i thik..80-90k not so much (and i realize not many teachers make that much).

The Private schools I went to and the private schools my daughters went to seemed actually outstanding.

1st minor step and it really is not necessary is vouchers,
2nd step close & out law all public schools,

They always say public education, what a misnomer. Thousands of kids go to LA United very few, less than 5% receive any education.

It would be very interesting to compare cost and education

Between public schools and private education

It is obvious public schools are a failure and cost much more than private schools.

The government and there step child the unions have no right to force people to go to public schools.

If US public schools were outlawed to day, which is the only moral alternative left,

I am certain teachers, parents, and churches would make private education available by Labor Day for those students that want an education.

Where are people trying to decide between food and their power bill going to get money for private school. Private schools, for the most part pay their teachers LESS money than the public schools. So what kind of teachers do you think you'll get for less money?
Half of my friends went to private Catholic school in Chicago. All but one is dead of drugs/alcohol or in jail. That's one out of 12.
Public Schools are not the failure. Society is the failure. Kids that are more interested in being supportive of their gang instead of their school are unteachable. My friend who taught in the ghetto in Chicago says his training in the Miltary Police was more useful than his teaching degree. Those teachers should get combat pay. Blaming teachers for the failures of parents is unfortunately the typical right wing disconnect with the situation.
You're really out of touch on this subject Bro.

You always find some way to drag right wing into every topic. Whats wrong, not getting your fill of arguement lately? Maybe we can discuss Zetia some? LOL

That didnt look like a couple of right wingers fighting in that video to me, call it a hunch. Leave us out of this pathetic, typical leftist behavior.

btw- my sister is working on her Phd and is a high school principal. As a teacher with a masters she barely scratched 40K, and now makes about 75K. Teachers are certainly not in it for the money......

My post was directed at SS and the idea that private schools would solve all our problems, not the video.

That Zetia argument wasn't about Zetia at all. It would have been worth the time if it was. I split that thread once because it became so digressed and I probably could have split it two more times.

No, teachers are not in it for the money. Not when the begining salaries for a degreed teacher in some states is $22,800.
No one disliked teachers more than I did growing up. But dating one showed me another side to the story.

Ulter I simply respectfully disagree, completely and as you know I am fairly conservative, not right wing but conservative.

The only way this debate would ever be solved is an attempt to privatize schools, perhaps vouchers.

And a results/cost benefit could easily be determined.

With the exception of the three emanations I always proclaim there is little (actually nothing) the government can do as well as private industry

Texas children roped into Islamic training

And maybe our society is a failure, but it still exists as the most prosperous, fairest, and mutually beneficial society since the beginning of time.
